It was only their second gig with John Frusciante in the band and sitting behind the kit was Dead Kennedy DH Peligro.

This show was part of the American half of the "Uplift Mofo Party Plan" tour which actually began with a completely different line up.

Only a couple of months earlier with Hillel Slovak on guitar and Jack Irons playing drums, not that long after this footage was shot Hillel would be dead and Irons left the band soon after.

But, the shows had been booked and the band HAD to play, so Frusciante and Peligro were drafted in on VERY short notice and the band had something to prove. You can already tell that they were right there on the edge, this band was going to be HUGE.

Not that they ever got “big,” but someone shot the first Ramones performance in what, 1974?!!

I grew up hearing Cat Stevens and this song from Johns 2005 album Curtains reminds me of Mr Georgiou

John Frusciante is one hell of a guitar player. and to have never been in a band before he joined the Peppers! I love his style. There's a youtube video of him showing how to play Under the Bridge. Pretty cool to see a guy do a video like that.

Jack Iron's son has a band that opened for the Peppers the last time I saw them. Can't remember their name but they were good.

Bob Marley/The Wailers got a couple of good TV breaks in London in 1973 right before getting huge.

Not currently available on the BBC .... The Police - Rock goes to college 78 or 79(?) - despite Sting becoming Sting later on (think!) - that performance was magnificent
Just the performance alone of Roxanne made me go out and buy the album.

Sept 24, 1991 - The Moon is tiny little club in New Haven, CT. "Nevermind" was released two days earlier.

They'd perform on "Saturday Night Live" less than a year later.

I got to see a joint bill with Blind Melon and Stone Temple Pilots after their debut albums dropped but before either of them were popular at all. Both bands rocked the crowd of maybe two dozen. Amazing performances. STP wound up the bigger band, and it took longer for their singer to succumb to his demons, but both bands were fantastic. Wish I had a video.
