I think Aerosmith is a great band and I grew up with them. Although I don't advocate drug/alcohol abuse due to my own struggles when I was younger playing in bands Aerosmiths music went downhill after they got clean and sober IMHO.

I don't care how many records they've sold or how much money they've made doing it. Their 1985 comeback album was "Done With Mirrors" which was classic, raunchy Aerosmith. Unfortunately, it had no catchy hits so they decided to hire outside writers like Desmond Child (the same guy who was writing for Cher, Bon Jovi, etc.) and as a result, Aerosmith sold zillions of records like "Permanent Vacation" and "Pump", and sounded like Cher and Bon Jovi in order to do so. Total sell-outs. Go to YouTube and listen to "Done With Mirrors" which was considered a commercial failure, and you'll see right away that it was kick a** compared to the crap they released afterward.

Holy crap they went so downhill. The 90's stuff is really cheesy stuff compared to their classics. I was a huge fan.
On a side note Steven Tyler's "country" stuff is the worst. Just saying.

Not a fan of the songwriting, primarily.
