More and more often I seem to take on the role of being the resident grumpy old fart. I'm sure you know the type: "We tried that 1986 and it didn't work then. Won't work now either." Tough job, but someone's got to do it.

I've got a M.Sc. in Oil Hydraulics from the first half of the '80s. Never ever had any use of that knowledge. Started off as a FORTRAN programmer, trained newcomers, then into 3D CAD, trained newcomers, added Unix and Sysadm, trained more newcomers --> realized that I'm actually good at training grownups and like to talk a lot --> customer training and later also project management in that field. Traveled a lot worldwide.

Then fast forward 15 years or so.

The present job title is a bit of a mouthful. "Resource & Competence Development Manager". Sounds fancy, but basically I see to it that there are enough trained and licensed engineers worldwide for our customer pilot projects and other early deliveries.

I've tried to explain to my 12-year old daughter what I do all day long: Telephone conferences. Which unfortunately is more or less accurate.

General Sales Manager for an NBC affiliate. Have been at the same station for 28 years. Pretty much the only real job I've ever had. I played music full-time for 2+ years after college, but the traveling lounge band circuit life was not for me. I made the right decision.

Park Maintenance for the City of Juneau, Alaska...baseball fields, trail work, little construction projects. Real nice. I'm also a part-time worship pastor. Former bus driver and underground gold miner. And in two months I will be a full-time seminary student...

Database and software engineer/consultant. Almost always out at client sites Sunday-Thursday. Bought a really cheap Epiphone Les Paul and a Yamaha THR10C that goes through the airport with me and been doing that for about a year now. REALLY improves the quality of life when you can jam every night for hours and hours and you get a LOT better.

PingGuo means apple in Chinese. How did you pick that name? Just curious since I've learned a couple Asian languages.

Pet name from my partner. I have about 200ish Mandarin words under my belt with a little bit of sentence structure and a typically western poor sensibility when it comes to tones.

    You sir, are brave.

I'm a worship leader and a Family Resources Coordinator for a birth-to-three, early intervention neuromuscular clinic.

In short, I play with kids and do paperwork all day.
