Rise! Rise from the dead , Oh Necro-Thread!

Anyways, the most versatile OD for me is the Dano Daddy-O because of the three-band EQ. Also the Joyo American Sound for the same reason.

+1 on the Blackstone, a truly remarkable little box with genuinely amplike behavior and a broad range of gain.

For sheer versatility, though, I like the Hungry Robot Bumblebee. It has two differently-textured drive stages (which can be used individually, or stacked, or bypassed for clean boost) plus master volume control & 3-band EQ. Capable of delivering a wide variety of tones and gain characters, everything from boost-with-EQ and various flavors of grit & crunch through beefy distortions right up to screaming feedback-on-demand.

I sometimes say that if I had no idea what amp I'd be playing through or even what style of music was on the menu, that's the one I'd reach for. As drive pedals go, it's sort of a Swiss army knife.

Boss OD-2. From barely-there grit, to full on distortion and everything in-between.

This is an old thread, but what the heck...

The Boss OD-1x is by far my favorite OD, and I've pretty much had them all.

I love this pedal when used as an overdrive, not as a "dirt channel" into a clean amp.

When pushing a dirty amp, or an amp on the edge, it is absolutely glorious. The clarity and note separation is amazing, even with complex chords. There's nothing else like it that I've found.

I recently bought a Nobels ODR Mini. It's definitely the most versatile of any of my overdrive or distortions. It does both very well and has an extremely usable tone control.

Have you played it in a band setting yet? I've never played the mini, but my original ODR1 sounded awesome when playing by myself, but in a band setting, as soon as I engaged it, it's like my guitar sound just disappeared

I've only played one job with it so far, but I didn't notice it disappearing in the mix. They claim that Nobels designed the Mini version with less bass. Maybe that helped fix the problem.

My Wampler Paisley Drive can cover a huge range. Expensive new but a superb used buy.

Is the Wampler Dual Fusion cheating?

If it can't be a dual pedal, then the + 1 on the Rat.

I don't actually use mine much anymore because I have other "specialist" pedals that do one thing or the other more effectively.

But, nothing can do all of the things (e.g. low gain, moderate gain, high gain, face-melt crazy gain) like the Rat can.

If there was a midi-controlled Rat with presets my other pedals would have a reason to be nervous.

This is kinda cheating but it is my most versatile O/D pedal. Three flavours of drive plus a few extras. All I really need and it fits in my guitar case.

Since I last posted on this thread, I've added a CSOD clone to the inventory. Very versatile but I continue to mostly rely on a couple of SD-1's with my own mods. No extra knobs or switches but they deliver the goods for me.

    Barber Burn Unit EQ

It does Marshall, Hot Rodded Marshall, Dumble ODS, Fender Tweed or just a great boost
    And it has 2 channels.
It's made by hand in the USA with top components
You can get them used for $125-150
