Summer's on the way and it's almost time to uncover and clean up the grill. I'm sure some of you make up your own sauce that's better then store bought, but when you want to just have something store bought handy, what do you like?

The one with the least amount of sugar.

Past few years I have been a rub man. Spices and the fat from the meat are my sauce.

Or a good NC vinegar style from some filthy smoky joint. I have never tried making my own.

A lot of the store bought sauces taste the same to me, and I've tried quite a few. There are a couple of local gentlemen that have been doing grilling shows on regional television for years. They have their own line of sauces, rubs and spices, and they're pretty good. You can find their products in all of our local grocery stores. Mad Dog and Merrill.

Store bought? Stubb's. Only because it's both decent and reminds me of Stubb's. Which, incidentally is not the greatest BBQ in TX. But as BBQ sauce is like salsa, in that there is no such thing as good bottled BBQ sauce, I'll takes what I can get.

The best actual living sauce is toss up between Salt Lick (the orginal one in Dripping Springs), and Hutchins in Dallas.

    OMG Hutchins. :):):):):):):):)

Stoked to see us back to form with three or four food threads going at once:lol:

I've done a lot of shoulders for parties and events. I'd bring a good supply of my own sauce, plus I sauce the meat lightly when I pull it down.

My ''secret sauce'' was usually well received. I never confessed that it was made by taking any old store-bought sweet sauce (Sweet Baby Ray's as example), cutting it considerably with white vinegar, and adding a bunch of crushed red pepper.:)

I have a monthly gig at Kent Blacks BBQ in San Marcos, Tx.
Part of the (great) pay is a very generous meal allowance.
The brisket and ribs they make is the best I’ve ever experienced.
I’d do the gig for the meal allowance alone.
    No sauce needed!

    I knew it!

Actually, that's a really good point. Excellent brisket is excellent on its own. Sauce sometimes kills it. Kinda like A1 on steak. OK for Sizzler. Horrible on an actual good steak.
