I don't want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it by not dying.
Last year, a good friend of mine was at the he of a long battle with cancer. We had been in bands together as kids and always stayed in touch. She was such a full-on person, it was hard to imagine her suffering through kemo, losing her hair, getting smaller and weaker.
At a certain point, her care-givers let everybody know that she was in and out of consciousness and didn't have much longer to live. They suggested that she had been getting some joy from checking voucemails from friends. So I called to say goodbye. To my surprise, she answered.
We had a great chat- very strange when you both know it's the last one- and I had her laughing so hard when she told me she hadn't chosen any funeral music. I made her promise to go out with something appropriate and then kick into "rainbow in the dark" by Dio. I am so glad I got a chance to make her laugh. It meant the world to me.

I'd post the video, but everyone knows the song already. LOL!

"Pop Goes the Weasle"
My uncle's funeral was last week and as they wheeled the casket out of the church they played "The Beer Barrel Polka". He loved beer and dancing to polka or what we call around here "Old Time". Its what he wanted.
