I'll have to think about it.

Just my opinion of most people's "top 3"...

Blazing Saddles - aged poorly on the PC front, but is still consistently funny, definitely has all the best jokes
Young Frankenstein - is good for a couple of watches, but is too concerned with its subject material to be a "great" comedy
Spaceballs - do not watch if you're over the age of 12

I can still remember the feeling of having watched Blazing Saddles the first time. The campfire scene was just so...

I worked at a music store owned by an older, non-humorous couple. Never saw them laugh or even smile. One day, they decided to go to a movie, and Blazing Saddles sounded up their alley. They came out of the theatre stunned. (Not literally true, but they talked about the experience as something they just weren't prepared for.)

Young Frankenstein is also in the top of my favorite movies.

But, then, we also had an earlier film, The Producers.

All three of these had my laugh muscles in knots. I wish I could laugh today as much as I did then.

Yes, for better or for worse, "Young Frankenstein" is very faithful to what it's spoofing. The primary source of its plot is Universal's third "Frankenstein" film, 1939's "Son of Frankenstein."

"The Producers" has some great lines that done necessarily read funny, but are almost inexplicably hilarious, like "Ooh... I fell on my keys" and "I'm hysterical and I'm wet!" It's also arguably Brooks' least cinematic movie, while "Young Frankenstein" is his most cinematic. And I totes agree about "Spaceballs." I think it's built up a reservoir of affection over the years with "Star Wars" fans who watched in a 100 times on VHS when they were 10 years old.
