I only have Rosewood fretboard guitars. Don't like Ebony, don't like Pearloid, not fond of Maple, haven't played any others.

    What's your choice?

I have all the major flavors, but I’m not really that particular about it other than the aesthetics involved.

I'm the exact opposite. I prefer Maple or Ebony.

Maple on Fenders, rosewood or ebony on Gibson styles. I like the headstock wood to match the fretboard. And rosewood on Fenders is still strictly for heathens!

I like maple, rosewood and ebony.
I have Strats and Tales with maple and rosewood fretboards
I have Les Paul customs with ebony and Standards with rosewood
And I personally feel that a Martin D35 would be all wrong without
it's ebony fretboard. Just my opinion.

Depends on guitar. Not going to buy a 335 w/ a maple board, but I generally favor maple.

I voted RW, but I like the ebony board on my Larrivee acoustic. I like maple boards too.

I won't vote because I can happy with any wood. As for Fenders specifically, I'm so undecided that I want one of each for both strat and tele…

I wouldn't like alder boards, and I wouldn't like some of the other, fairly soft woods we thankfully don't see much.

But it needs to be wood. Not a composite or wood substitute.

When I choose between maple, rosewood or ebony, I'm looking at whether the neck gets a separate board or whether it can be a one piece neck.

And, I'm looking at aesthetics. I just like the way an ash body marries to a maple board and an alder or mahogany body marries to a rosewood one. The visual appearance. I want the potential observer to see a sense of beauty, and let the human mind do that usual thing which is "more beautiful guitar makes more beautiful music".

My Telecaster’s necks/fretboards are all maple.

But like many others have said, Mahogany necks (Gibsons) should be Ebony.

In no particular order—rosewood, maple, ebony.

...but I’ll play whatever is on hand (on neck?).

    Does not matter to me.

Edit: Does the maple or "brown" look good with the color? That is about as complicated as I make it.

For me, it all depends on the guitar.

For a tele, it had to be maple. I don’t think it makes a discernible tone difference, I’ve had both rosewood and maple teles and they both sounded like teles should. But to me a tele is just supposed to be maple.

Strats can go either way. Don’t make me no never mind.

For Gibsons, has to be dark. Maple on a Les Paul looks like... not good. Rosewood works. So does ebony. I had an LP with a Grenadillo fretboard and it was a great guitar. I also don’t mind Pao Ferro or other substitutes for rosewood on pretty much any guitar. All good by me.

On acoustic? Pretty much the same rules. No maple, although I do dig maple necks on Gibson electrics or any acoustic. As long as they have a dark board.

Richlite is also fine by me. I had a rather expensive Martin 000 with. Richlite board and bridge, and it was just an amazing guitar.
