And then Poison Ivy Rorschach emerged from her more-than-a-decade retirement, just to invite me to sit with her on her back porch, for us to play some Howlin’ Wolf songs together (which was nice)

Take a junk car with the engine and fuel tank taken out. Stick it in a field with a sound system pumping out some loud, fat techno and cool pyrotechnics then go at the car with jack hammers and power tools along to the beat.

To form a band with comfortably accomplished musicians who all like each other, enjoy playing with each other, have similar tastes and goals, are all invested in making the band a success, and don't have drug/alcohol/marital/psychological problems. I was in a group like that 20-odd years ago and I don't think I appreciated what a unicorn it was.

Good luck with that!

In retrospect, I think I was the problem in some of the bands I was in, back in the day.

Getting better at playing my pedal steel. I have a long ways to go. Just need to get out there and look for opportunities to play.

Well, I started back playing guitar about 8 months ago, and having a ball.
But, I've been thinking I might want to sing a little. I mean, I'm not a singer, but I think I can stay in tune, as long as I stay in my range. When I tell myself "you can't sing", I think about Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and Gram Parsons. It didn't stop them. Plus, I'm not getting any younger!
Oh, and I really like those guys!

As a musicianship goal, I guess it's just to be a real tasty lead player, play less but every note be just right. I think of the electric guitars on Lucinda Williams' first three "serious" albums as like a holy grail. Nothing really complicated on there but dang if every note isn't right in just every way.
I'd like to really do better on slide and in open tunings, too. I come and go with that.

A long term goal since I've been playing bass is to play Bach's 6 Suites for cello on electric bass. I'm doing OK, with the first and second suites well under my fingers and various movements from the 3rd, 4th and 5th suites under control. But progress has been slow over the past few years and I'm afraid some are beyond me. Some of my favourite music there though, and a lot of it sits very well on bass.

Suite # 6 is a beast. I tried it on guitar after hearing Julian Bream's (I think) version and was roundly defeated. #3 is fun, though.

To play Lady of Spain on the electric accordion with seven Mariachi's playing electric five string banjos accompanying me at the Hollywood bowl to a sellout crowd.

The event would be called:

Seven Spanish Angelos, take another accordion player home.
