I have known it FOREVER, and it has been in my head recently, but for the life of me I do not remember its name. I want to think that it is being played by a trumpet, so probably not in the key of C (more likely F or Bb), but you should get the idea. It is fairly upbeat, around 160–170bpm...

Don’t recognize it, seems to be some kind of March, definitely suitable for trumpet. Could be a JP Sousa piece.

    I can read music, but I don't.

I'm getting 'What Do We Do With a Drunken Sailor' vibes just humming it to myself. But that's not it.

Wide awake, champ, but thanks. ;) Think you are on the right track with the polka thing, though.

Is this something akin to the movie 'The Box' where if I play the melody on my piano then horrific tragedies happen to me and my family?

Jokes aside, I did play it, and I don't know what it is. At first I thought it could have been a small excerpt from 'Music Box Dancer' but it very likely is not. Also I thought there was an app or site that you can either hum or play notes into and it will give you a list of results but for the life of me I can't seem to find it.

It's basically Bugle Call Rag. Not the whole song, but the part that comes back around, though actually it can be slightly varied each time depending on the interpretation.

    BINGO!

Thanks so much, memorex. Now, if I can only figure out WHY I know it... ;)
