What's the verdict on base plates for the bridge pickup???

It made a world of difference (for the better) on my telecaster with tex mex pu in the bridge. I imagine it'd be great to beef up a Strat too.

 

I bought a Seymour Duncan Twang Banger.It has a copper-coated steel bottom plate and "makes a Strat sound like a Tele".I think it´s a good-sounding pickup but it takes a lot more than a steel bottom to make a pickup that sounds like a Tele bridge pickup.

 

What it does for me is balance out the bridge pickup with the neck and middle a little better. It still sounds like a Strat, but bumps the bass and mids of that pickup up just a hair.

 

so my dumb question is... what would it do on the other pups?

 

So my dumb answer is: It will probably make them sound totally awesome!

 

I have the plate on a Fralin Vintage Hot bridge pickup. It adds the spank that a typical Tele bridge pickup has that the typical Strat bridge pickup doesn't. I like it a lot.

I find it is even more necessary since I unhook the middle pickup from any restrictions from a tone control (2d control goes to bridge pup alone) and I really do like the way the whole package balances, yeah.

 

I added one to my Strat which has the Seymour Duncan SSL-2's. Did not hear any difference. Even recorded before and after clips and could not pick out which was which when I randomized the files.
