What's the purpose of twisting wires inside an amp?

    Is this mostly just for organization and neatness?
    Or is there actually a purpose that adds to the electrical integrity of the circuit?

    *dont know who the author is but I had read about capacitance in twisted wires before and this was the first google search result*

    To the op; generally amp buildin' folks twist their heater wires to minimize hum. Beyond that, possibly not a good idea??? *i'm certainly no authority*.

    I see lots of photos of folks twisting all their wires and making it look super pretty, and i have done it lots on power section stuff, but I am trying to develop a habit against it, incase it influences the circuit.

    It's definitely why Hiwatt stuffs sounds so good. The first time I saw the inside of one I thought I was looking at a street map of Manhattan.

    I am certainly no authority either, but I wish all my amps sounded like the one I posted in the photo above. I haven't experienced any negative side effects from it!

    Heater wires are twisted because in most cases they are AC, and relatively high current, so they radiate 60 Hz hum. Since the current is balanced (same current going out in one wire and coming back in the other) twisting them keeps the two signals together, causing their radiated hum to cancel.

    Most audio signals in tube amps are unbalanced, meaning the signal is carried by a single wire referenced to ground. In these cases, twisting doesn't help.

    That's what I suspect too :)
    Btw, you're stuff looks really nice.

    I was thinking of groupdiy hifi type projects.
    I think in some of those circuits attention to very small details can make or break a project.
