what's the problem with fender's ultra-linear amps?

    I do have a 1977 Bassman 70 that I run through a 2x12 with pedals. Great platform for that. Who cares what snobs say?? You could do a heckuvalot worse.

    If you're looking for cleans, the ultra linear versions are great.

    If you're looking for an inexpensive SF Super Reverb to mod to blackface specs, this is the wrong amp.

    I got lucky to buy a '79 Pull-Boost Princeton Reverb 18 years ago for $450 because people thought the pull boost was garbage (the tone it gets is). While I could rip the circuit out and may when I get filter cap can replaced with a smoother volume pot, it's been great as a recording amp and even used out live (with good monitors).

    To each their own.
