You know, hand carved archtops go for quite a bit of money. The luthier is basically on retainer for 3 months working on your instrument, plus the materials are very expensive...

My most pricey guitars are these three in the $1500-$2500 range at the time of purchase.

I picked up a new Martin D-18 in 1999 for $1400. It is the lightest, most resonant guitar I have ever held. Sound is just amazing. The neck fits my hand like no other. I think it was a bargain at that price.

I picked up a '94 Mexican tele toploader new in '97 for about $350. The neck is a little fatter, and it has the small vintage frets. My #1 electric.

I paid $950 for a new 1999 hardtail ash American Strat, if sounds great, and fits nice in my hand, but not like the tele does.

My Gibson BR-9 lapsteel was about $200 if I recall. The P-90 in that thing just screams.

I keep thinking I'd like an old LP TV Special DC, but I can't seem to find one at a price I'm willing to pay. I remember when they were expensive at $400.

Paid about $2,700 for a ‘73 Les Paul Recoding Guitar. It’s really outstanding, looks, feel, sound. Well worth the money.

£450 ($587). 2014 Gibson Les Paul Tribute. Didn't keep it long because of the Dirty Fingers pickups.

$900 and change. 1995 American Standard Custom Shop with Texas Specials. Bought it brand new in the case. She plays like a dream. It kills me to see guitar prices these days.

The most I’ve ever paid is £2400 for my left-handed, Fiesta Red Custom Shop Strat. Great guitar, unlike my Sonic Blue Custom Shop which is a total pile of poo.
