Eric Johnson used to have "Stop In the Name of Love" by the Supremes in his set list. It was good.

I saw Reckless Kelly play The Beastie Boys "Sabotage." I thought that was pretty out there.

Oh yeah!! my wife just reminded me of the Peter Gabriel concert (shock the Monkey tour) where he did some 50's rockabilly tune. The audience didn't know what to think. Very out of place and completely out of left field.

I saw that tour...but man, that was over 30 years ago...don't remember a single thing about a 50's rockabilly tune, but I do remember him crowdsurfing....way before the younger bands started doing that in the 90's

This. Leonard Cohen and Phil Spektor. It doesn't get any weirder.

How about Neil Young's Trans album?

But I guess with Neil you come to expect "out of left field".

OK maybe it wasn't precisely "out of left field" more like "in front of the backstop"

Tom Waits: "Heigh-Ho" - as in the Disney 7 dwarfs song. Very strange.

It doesn't count when the artist only plays left field.

What about Bonnie Raitt singing "Baby Mine" from the 30's Disney Film "Dumbo". Its actually a beautiful version of a beautiful song. I dont know, you can't a get a bigger commitment to 'departure' than Wendy.....Hey, wait a minute, maybe you can,.. didnt Rush do a cover tunes album?

I wish most of the National Anthem singers now could do 1/2 as well as that. Simple, understandable lyrics, a capella, great harmony. Loved it, thanks for sharing.
