    I bought a 90s MIJ Fernandes Strat for $20.
I bought a 12 string Alvarez Regent for $20 from the same guy. I still have it.
    I bought a '89 MIA Squier Strat for $80.

    Hi.

My first Tele, a 2017 MIJ 60s style Tele with US made “American Vintage '62 Custom” pickups, cost me about the equiv. of US$300, brand spanking new.

I put it down to an algorithm fail in a famous large online company - I was duly warned that there was a “Newer model available” for three times the price.

I happened by a yard sale once and came home with a cruddy Cort Effector , the Strat style in blue burst and an equally filthy Marshall Valvestate VS15R for $30.
Cleaned up the guitar, got some of the cheesy on board effects working and kept it around for kicks. Eventually I needed the space and sold it for $70, but I had to deliver it 2 miles away. The amp is still here somewhere.

    MIJ Sigma DR-35 acoustic guitar.
Bought from a pawn shop for $85 cash.
They threw it in a Taylor hard case which I sold for $50.
    Sooo…$35.

I had an very old nabor, he invited me over one day, knowing I played,
He sat me down, we started chatting and he told me of back in the day when he played guitar, a reminiscent tour of his life, he said he had probably only a few years left and wanted to give me something?

he left the room and game back with a beat to hell Gibson case..
    Yup a 1959 les Pual…..

then I sadly woke up from this killer dream.

    sigh…

I've shown this here before, but my first "good" electric guitar was bought in 1969 from Big Ben's Pawn on S.Main in Ft Worth....a 1960 double-cut Cherry Red Les Paul Jr, which included the original faux alligator soft-side case, for $60. It still has the best P-90 I've ever played. I will NEVER sell this guitar, even though it's not really stage-worthy anymore. Here's an older pic.

'81 MIJ Squire Strat. $80 at a garage sale 1/2 mile from my house, about five years ago. Has plenty of dents and scratches, had black fingernail polish on anything bright. It's a nice Strat, not too heavy.

Nothing absurdly cheap. $99 a few times. Most notably a 90s Affinity Strat that was just a darn good guitar at any price.

It made me completely rethink affordable guitars. There can be good ones out there.

I've been given a few guitars, a couple of decent ones actually. The best deal I ever got on a guitar though was a '56 Martin D-18 that I gave fifty bucks for. Long gone now, you do some really dumb things when you're young, middle aged, and old.

Gave a friend $40 for a beat up acoustic and a disassembled Silvertone Liberator (Explorer-type with a unique body style)...that was my personal record for a few years until I paid $13 at a yard sale for a little Telleno parlor guitar.

Bought a Yamaha SG in the late 80s from the world's smallest skinhead for something like $50-$100?. It was a very good guitar that was always in the mix for years. Covered with punk rock stickers...gave it away and hopefully some kid is using it now.

I gave a friend a check for $500.00 for this abused ‘74 reissue of the ‘55 Les Paul Special converted to a slide axe with overwound Dimarzio pups to replace the original P90s.
He never cashed the check so, I guess, I got it for free
I did buy a Vox Tornado(sic?) big hollow body feedback machine for $50.00 back in 1970. There was a Vox wah in the case that I kept for a few years but the pot was bad and I didn’t want to work on it

    Just in 2020:

Bought an Ampeg bass amp off of Facebook Marketplace for $80, got a Samick bass for free.
Paid $25 bucks for 2 student sized acoustic guitars. Gave one to my neighbor's kid, gave another to a friend.

A few years back a person I know offered me a Lotus strat copy that was on its way to Goodwill. I took it, cleaned it up, put in a set of GFS rail-type pickups with a coil split, gave it a setup, and it was cool. My son knew a musician in high school who wanted a guitar for some home recording, so I gave it to him. He still plays it.

This is a good example of something that can drive you crazy thinking about it. If only you held onto it...BUT $140 for that mando in ‘74 was a lot.
