The odds were good, but the goods were odd,
The roughest path’s the finer treasure.
It’s a gift to give to forgive your gods
Let your heart feel earthly pleasure.

To be old and wise, you must first be young and stupid.

I’ve been volunteering at a soup kitchen. Some of the old ladies are pretty tough on us newbies. I’m cool, I’ve got thick skin... I’ve been saying

“well, you can’t make an omelette without breaking some legs”

Our throats were hot, the beer was cold
Between big swallows, bigger stories told

An end-of-verse-two-lines for a song I've been working on:

    A good day's when I
    don't think about her.

Desolate alley echoing a Kerouac slapback
Desperate day of reckoning, it's gone, not coming back
Memories drawing fainter as they're slipping from the light
Darkness, that great Painter, flooding all in night

Uncover all the fatal flaws, as the black crow caws
The promise of what could have been, but never ever was...Lost Cause

    An old one I wrote:

“I finally quit drinking ‘bout nine years ago,
Cuz Fort Worth had ran out of beer...”

    A more recent one:

    “Babe, put down that shotgun,
It ain’t no toy and this ain’t no fun...”

    2-0-18, the year began
I kept to the woods with decisions at hand
Snow slid quiet underfoot, but time was tickin' like a bomb
Then the phone call came to say goodbye to my Mom
And I was on the road

    Reminds me of:

That salesman said, "Drink Canada Dry!"
But I can't, no matter how hard I try.
