Hi! I am alive and well. Since last year when we were evacuated due to the massive Ranch Fire I have been absent from the forum. Thank you all for you thoughts along the way. We survived with our home and my shop intact. About 25% of our property burned; came up to the foundation of our house. My workbench has been busy. I couldn’t be more stoked to have Helmut helping me with these Tiger buffers. Hope you are all doing well.
good to read you are doing well and survived the fire. in that period someone mention t that you probably were living in the fire area.
the things you made/make appeal t aesthetically beautiful to me so i really mist them showing up here.
that first bass finish, beautiful
keep up the good work and stay save ;-)

Gorgeous stuff Mark! Glad all turned out safe!

@Jim_in_PA that shop looks pro level! Fully jealous!!!

Been playing with some more crotch walnut. Crazy grain, some spalted white wood spots, may even leave a little live edge depending on how it shapes out. It is air dried ranging from 9-13% mc so epoxy filling some cracks while waiting a bit for it to level out.

Dropped off 150 bf more of 2" figured walnut at a local kiln to dry out.

Did you burn the top on that LP? It looks fantastic. Also love the Trapezoid Inlay, Interesting pattern in the inlay.

Hey, thank you. No those Redwood tops are not burned. Dyed and sanded back. The bass has its oil finish. The Mescalero will get a razor thin vintage style nitro finish.

The inlays on the R9 makeover I’m doing came from Tom Bartlett. $200 for the set. Made by the original maker of the material Gibson used in ‘59. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard blank was perfect for the look we are going for. Royalite binding also came from Bartlett. Never thought I’d take a $7,000 Murphy aged R9 and tear it apart but here we are. Lol

Thank you. That’s really nice of you. I won’t be as anti social in the future. Hope you’re doing well.

What’s on my workbench, all my guitars waiting for me to return to them in 6 weeks, on the upside, I can walk the beach everyday. Will miss my bench....

Currently building the cajon I bought wood for ages ago it seems like. It's just about ready for glue up but I only have one working clamp big enough at the moment. I still need to get the rubber feet, snare wire and a roundover bit for the router too.

Phew! Some pretty walnut in here!

This baby is getting closer to completion:

30" scale bass with gold laminate top & matching headstock, ash body, padauk and wenge neck. And, yeah, all of that 'fenix' stuff on the top peels off, just leaving it for protection until the bass is done :)

I also just finished this little guy:

Birthday present for a friend...Marking knife with macassar ebony scales.

My parents just got back from a trip to Wisconsin.
A friend bought a building that was home to a custom guitar shop. They left all this stuff when they closed.
He didn’t know what to do with it, heard I made guitars as a hobby, so I got all this stuff. :):):)

Everything. Pickups, pots bridges, tuners necks, bodies.
35 different bodies. Some flame maple capped bodies.
