Was a nice day.
Three more coats of nitro today.
Today's project is to put together "sides" for my utility trailer. I've been meaning to do this for years after regretting not getting the OEM aluminum rails when they were still available. The lumber to roll my own cost more than the factory option would have because of current material costs. This will make my trailer even more useful. An open, flat deck is very well suited to moving sheet goods and larger quantities of lumber, but it's not good for hauling loose stuff/debris, boxes, etc. With an upcoming move and then sale of this property, having sides on my trailer may eliminate the need for renting a small dumpster for the "final cleanout", too.
Looks more like a Strat to me. Aren't DC Tele's supposed to look like this?
I can’t believe it was warm enough to spray - it was minus 10 and windy here.
Nothing but sap sicles in my buckets
It was cold but it’s supposed to be mostly above freezing this week
My favourite time of year - syrup season
another day sanding... almost finished for the day when the big lizard decided to come and have a sniff around..
time to go upstairs for a cup of tea...
body wet down with a damp rag to raise any grain for the next sanding, I'm so fussy with scratches I'll be here forever, just how fine do you go for a clear finish?...
It’s my version of a double cutaway tele, not the horrible (IMO) thing that Fender came up with, although, I suppose, it’s Fender’s prerogative to butcher their own iconic design.
My version is all tele shaped except for the upper horn. I copied the lower horn and moved it up 2”.
There ARE reasons besides finances we seldom come down there
I kept everything inside, until I went to spray. It was about 0 deg, but warm in the sun. Brought everything back in as soon as it was sprayed.
No maple trees up here. Went to Wisconsin a few time in March, and had fun with the kids at our friends doing maple syrup.
My Aussie bandmate told us about how a massive one of those (goanna, right?) gatecrashed his Christmas picnic on the beach one year and calmly made its way toward the roast chicken in the middle of the blanket, put it in its mouth and calmly marched on the bushes nearby. Everybody was too flabbergasted to do anything. They look really cool and I find myself being jealous of your fauna on top of already being jealous of all the cool timber you have down under.
I hadn't seen that big one all summer, there were a few small ones passing through. I was beginning to wonder where the old fella was... he's OK. The birds make a certain racket when he's around, I can hear him coming...
no kidding, I've seen so many critters in the last month near the house, now I'm back making guitars at the bottom of my back stairs... it's been a local parade recently, they've all come by for a look......
What, no brown snakes and salt water crocs?
yeah, for the first time in decades I had a brown tree snake climb up onto the rafter above my bench earlier in the week, where the python usually hides....
I only saw the last foot of the tail as it slipped between the tin and the batten and it didn't look like no python, very brown .... not quite warm enough for crocs around here, but that could change if the water warms up.
usually it's a sign of rain coming if the snakes are heading to a high dry place... we haven't had any big rain yet...probably just passing through.
Forgot to post.
Went ice fishing. Caught some crappie & walleye.
Another beauty day, had to spray!
Last coats of nitro.
Spruce showing off its “cross silk”.
Some roasted curly maple that should make a fantastic neck on my Dipole guitar.
Old Allparts body that has been through a lot...came to me
for contour cuts...and go back home to Austria.
Wood pickup cover 1.0.
Thinking of doing one out of walnut for the Acousti-Tele build.
Thought I’d give it a try with some leftover scrap cherrywood flooring.
Looks good, other that the wood chipped out.
Thicknesses look ok.
I might give the walnut a try. Might not chip out like the cherrywood.
Anyone else try one of these?
