This is the second time to convert one of these type pickups to a Firebird and they work out great. Good idea on the varnish, I'll keep that in mind.

Got the body wet sanded & polished today.
This evening we installed most of the hardware, minus frets, nut & VOL pot. Still waiting on order to show up on the mail.

The heartwood of the black ash wasn't perfectly stable. We glued it in on the blank build. Still showed through after level/wet sanding. Perfectly level & solid, but looks defective. Relic!

Yes, just double sided tape, but not really the strong “carpet tape” since I want to get the veneer off in one piece. Using this one for veneers. C9D5C465-E0ED-421E-AC35-1ACA5D850C21.jpeg

There was no reason why we put the P90 in the middle. Just thought it was the only place while keeping the standard Tele pickups.
The Gilmour mod with the push-pull allows the neck to be on with the bridge, or all 3 pickups when in the second position of the 5-way switch. Lots of different sounds. Swis Army Guitar.

    Kind of a unique animal.

Just finishing up the final set-up on this JM style electric baritone ukulele -- it's got a few idiosyncratic additions, like onboard fuzz, and a momentary kill switch...

Not guitar related and not on my bench but some of you may like this. The roof on our 2 car garage is sagging. The main reason is that the previous owner had removed 3 of the rafter ties when either fixing or installing new garage doors. The rule of thumb is a full length rafter tie every other roof rafter. The job of the rafter ties is to hold the opposite walls together (the rafter ties are under tension) Not having enough allows the roof to sag and the walls to bulge out at the top. The fix is fairly simple. Jack up the roof and pull the top off the walls back in. Once a the walls are a little past vertical, install the new rafter ties and re-secure any that have pulled away. I am also over engineering the fix a little. I am adding 2 1/2" cables with turnbuckles. That should hold it together. Some pictures so far.

    The roof.

set up a bridge today..... and finished the pickup routs and wiring holes... getting there...

I use hat elastic pulled up nice and tight to align my bridges .... easy to work with, keeps tension if you move the bridge, no need to have tuners in...a rubber band holds it into the nut slots...

I hold it with a few pickguard screws at first before drilling for larger ones, in case I want to micro adjust the bridge placement..... I put my final screws in after I string it up and check intonation/where the saddles sit ... I like them more forward than right against the back as the bass saddle can be sometimes....

I'm using up parts, I'll give this guitar away to a teen I know...... I don't think he'll care if it isn't a 3 barrel bridge..;)... I'm cutting this one down along the line of the back of the pickup hole and putting 2xp90's in it with the bridge pu angled....

Cutting up some curly maple and walnut for fretboards, resaw, plane. Cut out a couple curly maple, walnut and cherry necks after routing for trussrods. Glue some necks together, cut headstock to thickness, and transition to fretboard. Deciding what neck/fretboard wood combo will look best on a couple ambrosia maple bodies and a cherry body.
