    The reason I asked, the best possible finish on DF is Helmsman Spar Varnish. I did the brightwork at a boatyard for over 3 years and the wood of choice for yards,spars and masts then was Douglas Fir. In a saltwater environment that varnish only needs redone every 3 to 4 years.A guitar? Likely never and crushes the pinks ;)

    I have a stack of 40 year old weepy Douglas Fir body blanks. Some day.....

    And Dave, “The Crushing Pinks”! Not a bad band name if I must say so.

    Saturday I went to buy some white birch . Ended up getting 2 logs cut up one 14 ft one 16 ft mostly 1" boards lots of spalting will know more when I plane it
    butts measured close to 14"

    Helped my youngest son route out his Black Ash Tele. Birdseye maple neck, Pau Ferro fingerboard, forest green top & back, natural ash sides, tummy cut, contour heel cut, 3 pickup.
    Tele bridge, P90 middle, Tele neck, 5way switch & white pickguard. :(

    That's what he wants. Going to be a heavy sucker.

    I have the same problem on the Douglas I'm currently modding. Looks like no aftermarket pickguard is gonna fit.

    Sneaking in a pedal while working on the 5E3, Madbean Fritter (Hot Cake mod), it's a mini for a 1590A but my fingers are too big, so it's going in a B lol

    A guy in town makes live edge tables I guess. I was out walking and saw a pile of wood with a " free" sign. There were plenty of shorter pieces suitable for turning bowls. I left that for somebody else. I picked though and took these pieces. I think I can get a body out of this pile. That big rectangle is 17 x 19. A few weeks ago a neighbor threw out a poplar cabinet that looked custom made with 18" or so wide panels of 13/16 poplar. Guess I will recycle and reuse some of this stuff.
