My buddy Rick came up with an idea, of a guitar neck for a guitar wall hanger. He only needs a 42” to fit the space on his wall.
I thought it was a good idea, so I measured my wall, and made one to fit a wall area of mine.
Made the headstock on the CNC. I took a Strat neck, & scaled it up to 7’(84”) long.

I took some scraps of plywood, & scraps of 3/4” lumber.

Shows the proportion.

I have some walnut veneer, 12” x 96”. I’ll glue on for fingerboard, & some maple veneer, I’ll use for the headstock. It’ll get marker dots, & something for frets.

I’ll screw it horizontally on the wall, with about 6 Hercules guitar hangers.

My first full build (spring 2020) didn't like the winter dryness here in the north. Either the fingerboard shrank or the frets grew but MAN there was a lot of metal to remove on the ends!

All strung up with fresh strings - so much better!

With about a dozen barbed wire fences between there and the artic I don't care for it either 🤣 (once dated a Navajo who's mom lived there. Was only there ONCE and man it AIN'T worth it to get away from your exe 😳). No offense intended dude 😎

Marked out the frets to scale.

Tape is where the marker dots will go.

On the software, the marker dots are 3/4” dia at this scale.
Now I have to find material for them.
I might buy some 1/4” dowels, & paint silver for the frets.
Then cut to length, & glue on.

I’ll get the headstock under the laser to engrave my logo.

Coming along.

After supper I thought of an idea for marker dots & nut.
I took a 3/4” pipe, ground to a sharp edge to make a cutting punch. Cut the nut out of some white Teflon.

Wanted some thin white plastic. So I used a sour cream container lid & punched out the dots. Plywood scrap as a backer.

Cut out the other walnut body today. The guy I got the body wood from came over to watch the whole CNC process. He is an old family friend and was the woodshop teacher at our high school. (He is 88 or 89 years old). He thoroughly enjoyed seeing it all. He even said if I need more wood that he has plenty to spare. He mentioned his grandson plays guitar and I offered to make one for him if he wanted. He said he will check on that. Enough talk, now on to the pictures.

I must say, this is some beautiful walnut. The top cap is book matched claro walnut. The back / body is a chambered, single piece that was cut down over 40 years ago and air dried. The canoe on the back cavity cover will be filled with blue epoxy resin. I am thinking I may need to paint the bottom of the inlay white (or blue) to really have the color come out. Anyone have any thoughts about that? I will probably test on a scrap piece first. (Just drill a big shallow hole)

Save your plastic pickguard leftovers. They make great dots. Recycle-Reuse.
