Well today I basically spent the entire day working on my 12 string.

* I made a brass tailpiece from scratch
* Bevelled the body
* Dyed the body black before sanding it flush again.

With THIS as the result.

Call me crazy, but I really like the way this looks, the pictures don't do it justice.

I might spray the headstock face black since it doesn't suit the rest of the look of the guitar here. Maybe with some white lettering on there.

Finished up my gamertag sign for my office. I've got a friend with a commercial grade CNC laser, and he cut out the acrylic for me. Then I built the box using a trammel jig and an older maple desk top.

I talked to the owner of the Custom, & convinced him it should have a fret level, re-crown & polish.

Organizing screws and guitar parts in the new shop building. I felt like a quiet day as I've been doing small projects 7 days a week for a long time, so a little busy work was indicated just to chill out. The good thing about it is that I'm now reaquainted with what guitar parts I have on hand which will make planning for what I do next easier.

My "Chopped up Ricky" 12 string is coming together nicely.

I tried the pickups, they work, have that Rickie-chime AND, much like with a Rickie, the bridge pickup has a very weak output compared to the neck pickup. I wonder why they are like that.
My theory, gotten from my dearly departed Ricky 325 is it is meant to be played on neck pickup or all, not the bridge alone. Who knows šŸ˜„

Got the Samick with neck pocket crack finished up.

The original reason why it was brought to me, was poor intonation. He could never get it right.
I adjusted each saddle, all the way back, and all strings still high.

I had to move the bridge back.
So I plugged the original stud holes, & re-drilled the stud holes back as far as I could go in the body, without going into the trem route.

I was able to get just over 1/16ā€ further back.

Intonation is perfect on every sting, but the low-e. just slightly high, but it’ll have to live like that.
The only other option, would be to make a shim at the end of the neck pocket to move neck further from bridge, plug neck screw holes, & re-drill neck screw holes.

Setup & plays great.

Yeah, but when I think 12 string Rickenbacker, THIS guy comes to mind.

And from what I read, Roger McGuinn disconnected the neck and middle pickups, using ONLY the bridge pickup with that built in compressor to add extra Jangle.

Curiously though, once I switched the pickups around, it fixed that issue, they actually became a balanced set and the guitar NAILED that tone.

And speaking of balance, one ought to think with a body that small and a headstock that big that it would be neck dive city, but it's actually very comfortable to play both strapped on and seated.

DSC03337.JPG

But I need to change up the alignment of the bridge. As the guitar doesn't properly intonate and the break angle from the tailpiece is too sharp, so I'll have to cut it down and move it back a little.
