Rip, I'm going to enjoy reading that. A few years ago I was asked to install a Sustainiac in a flying vee that happened to have active pickups. It was truly the guitar from hell.

I did book mark your web site, I'm fascinated by the technical side of these little wooden boxes and it will be interesting to see what you have to say.

Carved my rear contours, routed the control cavity, drilled for the bridge and ferrules, and routed the pickup cavities.

And then this happened. The six string build only happened because I messed up the 7 string neck and had an extra sapele body blank. So I built another 7 string neck and now I'm working on that body. I already have all the electronics, bridge, and tuners for this build. The body is one piece black limba and it is extremely light. Like basswood light. But check out that grain.

Here are the necks in their current state. The burnt parts on the headstock will be sanded off when I spindle sand to their actual shape.

Got a smoking' deal on a lightly used Rigid planer today....goes nicely with the Rigid jointer.

Not happy, the fretboard is just plain grubby. Time for the sanding sticks. Well that's a lot better. Wiped on a coat of shellac for now but I'll have to put something with a harder finish on it. Not sure what yet

First sheet of drywall went up...the "difficult" one with the electrical panel and a bunch of other perforations that had to be laid out by hand and also involved a little fitting in the corner due to some variances caused by the guy who put up the internal girts...wonder who that was? It was the first corner and, well...the other three are much better. At any rate, the rest of the 30 sheets will be a little easier as I'll be able to use a rotary tool and some handy box-marking thingies to deal with the outlet cutouts.

Cross posting from my other thread, just thought some regulars to this thread might like this:

Burncaster body made from 30 year old weathered doug fir. I epoxied the cracks before shaping, and removed so much of the aged surface that I re-aged it with propane fire, wire brush and steel wool.

First time I've made a guitar from scratch in many years. I made pattern routed templates from my Fender Tele. Worked a treat.

Thinking about the neck now, and maybe a strat from some of the same batch of fir. I have 4 truss rods, so I think probably 4 necks, two each to experiment to find my favorite neck shape.

And how about finish on this? matte as is, or add shine?

Made good progress on the sheetrock today...while thoroughly enjoying tunes all day from WXPN.org (which I support) via an Echo Dot. That little thing sounded pretty darn amazing in the big space so I'm anticipating the big system is going to sound grand. TDPRI Forum member I_make_my_own is coming over tomorrow to help with the rest of the sheet rock work, so I expect that by the end of the day, it will be pretty near to be done.

LOL...I don't believe I'm going to be manufacturing anything, but will hopefully build a guitar or three in the new shop. Thanks for your kind comments.

Most of my day with Chloe was light 'n sunny... but sometimes these ladies can turn very dark, very fast

However, my sparkle sense is beginning to tingle

While some brave persons are charged to protect us from the bad guys, work high, high up maintaining our powerfully-charged electrical grid, or far down in darkened mines deep in the bowels of the earth, psshhhht, whatever!

This morning, I am steeling myself towards a lengthy exposure to the awful, terrible dangers of purple sparkles. As the saying goes, not all heroes wear capes. Thankfully, I ride on my wifes' health plan, and it's pretty good.

Oh, look...it's our TDPRI friend I_make_my_own helping with the drywall today. Some chuckles came with the measuring because he's German and writes some characters slightly differently and didn't grow up with inches as a focus. (I work in metric in the shop, but for construction, well...kinda got to do the inch thing) At any rate, we finished the job off in a few hours and I really appreciated his help. An extra set of hands really made things more efficient.

I think that measured 36,5 inch plus 1.75/8th on the comma.
