Rebuilding a Tele I bought at a charity fundraiser a few years ago. A kid made it and it was a good cause. However I never liked the heavy finish, the hardware or the neck and it wouldn’t intonate. Found the purchased neck was not made properly and stuff wasn’t lined up as good as it should be. It was unplayable but it had a good story. So I decided to rehab this thing. Found a lovely piece of solid spalted maple as the body. Needed to rework the neck pocket and such so I decided to try my hands at a laminated neck and carry it through the body. Here’s progress so far. Ready to carve the neck.

This guitar is now off the bench and plays like it should. The laminated neck turned out great. I retained only the pups and the customized pickguard. Finished with Tru Oil. Went with Gotoh hardware in Cosmo Black.

Akai Riff-O-Matic U400. Best tool anyone ever made for learning and practicing guitar riffs. Unfortunately they haven’t made them for years. Anyway, I had worn out the guitar input and headphone jacks and didn’t want to mess with sourcing replacements. So I removed the old jacks and soldered in short pieces of cable with female inline jacks. As good as new, albeit a little uglier.

A new T for a friend. African mahogany body, flame maple neck, paoferro board, 25", 2 HB, 1 volume and 1 tone with series / parallel switching (I don't like so much coil tap). Simple but a bit away from the standard

Harley Benton 35+ B-stock. I can't find anything wrong with it, no blemishes or anything. It's set up fine, string action 1.5mm on the low E-string 1.25mm on the high E-string. No choking, dead spots. Frets need a polish but don't they all on new guitars. £169! Seriously? Bit pleased with that.

Helped my youngest finish his neck for the 80’s Shredder guitar. Floyd Rose bridge, locking nut.

Flamed maple/walnut/maple/walnut/flamed maple, ebony fingerboard.
The flamed looks roasted, but he ordered flamed maple, so I guess just a darker piece of wood.
Looks nice with some oil on it.

We had it on the guitar. Took off to fret dress & oil.

Excellent! Do you already have a 220V line in your shop or do you have to run one? I would like to see how you wire it up. Do you have to make a new mounting plate for the spindle?

Excellent upgrade. Much more control and no more of the screaming router motor. The cutter still makes noise, but a spindle is SO much more pleasant. Congrats!

Excellent! Do you already have a 220V line in your shop or do you have to run one? I would like to see how you wire it up. Do you have to make a new mounting plate for the spindle?

I have a 220V welder plug, and a 220V plug for compressor, so should be easy.

My son says his wife wants me to check out an old guitar her grandmother gave her that was her great grandfather's to see if it can set it up decently. Story is he found it behind a bar one night in the late 60s a crack in the side & missing the tuners & no headplate. Looks like he tried to glue the crack.

They show up with this one. A Harmony H64. The pickups date it as 1968 . They are a family of meager means so her great grandfather took some tuners off an old acoustic her grandfather had. Other than the headstock black, raised logo, & tuners all else is original, including enough dust inside is to crochet a quilt. All in all a cool old guitar.

We had a Harmony like this except it was in Cherry Red. It had the Bigsby as well. Last I knew my brother still had it. I'll need to check with him to see if he still has it.

I bought a Fender Power Strat a few weeks back that needs rewired. Previous owner for some reason decided they didn't like the Fishman Power Bridge and took out all the wiring. It came with the guitar and I have it all torn apart on the bench, just haven't had the energy to tackle the job yet. Won't happen today either.

If you are referring to the scalloped areas on the frerltboard that's not scraped away. That's over 60 years of playing wearing down a fretboard!

You should check. These were like $180 new which was quite high for Harmony in the day. Today they go for up to $1600 in pristine shape!

No doubt! I ran across this 1957 Univox 32" scale bass & talked a guy down to $45 for it a few years back. I could only find one image on google of one like it and had to join a univox group to find out what it was. The action was unplayable & filthy dirty. Cleaned it up, leveled the frets, new nut, replaced pots & wires & passed it on to a good bass player friend for the parts cost so it would go to someone who would appreciate it. Plays like a custom so he plays it all the time with a killer unique sounding pickup.

I'm generally not a fan of cheap guitars but put a vintage one out there & I love the cool factor of them.
