What's Going On With Eddie Van Halen?

I have not heard that. And I hope the best of health to Ed.

He has spoken in the past about all of the unreleased material he has recorded and in the can. Claims to have many albums worth of stuff. So I suppose that eventually when he passes away (hopefully a long time from now) someone will begin unloading all of that on the public... like was done with Jimi, SRV, etc.

 

I've seen some articles online but the best they could do is give rumors and conjecture. Hope he's OK.

 

I believe a lot of possibly unwarranted speculation derived from a benign comment Steve Lukather made on the Eddie Trunk Podcast.

Steve Lukather on Eddie VH/VH

I wouldn't doubt Eddie has some health issues. The severe bout of diverticulitis he suffered a few years back sounded quite difficult. Yet, if a serious condition exists, he prefers his privacy.

 

My favorite EVH story come from either Steve Lukather or Steve Stevens (I forget).

The Steve in question went into the studio to cut a solo for Michael Jackson. Michael was there during the recording (or listening to what had been recorded previously), and exclaimed "Oh, I really like the high notes!"

Steve didn't think much of this, though for whatever reason it stuck. He wrapped things up in the studio and left.

Some time later, he's hanging out at Eddie's place, Eddie of course having previously played the solo on "Beat It". Steve mentions working with Michael Jackson, and Eddie asks him, "Hey man, did he say he really liked the high notes?"

 

I'd hoped that with Prince material. But not much of anything has come to light...and his estate has shown they are (more than) willing to cash in, so not sure what's up there

 

Eddie will be OK

 

I remember the first time I heard Running With The Devil. Wow!!

 

Didn't he have a bout of tongue cancer a while back? Hope that hasn't recurred.
Let's just say a prayer for EVERYBODY....OK?

The rumors originated with statements made by David Lee Roth. The "terrifying" photo of Eddie is anything but, but there are photos of him (e.g., below) in which he looks very much like a guy going through chemo.

You can call it a rumor. You can call it Steve or Fred. But I'm good at reading the tea leaves with these things, and my advice is to resist the defensive instinct to yell "b.s." and prepare for his passing.

I don't think he looks bad. He's 64. He's had about with cancer which is very daunting.

 

I heard the comments of David Lee Roth (made surrounding his Vegas residency). Yet, there no evidence he has ANY contact with Eddie. He even noted he heard the same rumors. And then went on his typical weird rant(s).

Lukather is a known friend of Eddie's and noted them texting recently. When Steve noted some health issues more media outlets jumped on rumors, given he appears a more stable-minded source. Yet, I trust his general assessment of such things - that it doesn't sound dire.

And if it were to be the case, it's no one's place but Eddie to make that public knowledge.

 

DLR and Van Halen were planning a summer 2019 tour and then it was off. DLR, who does have knowledge of the hows and whys of that, says that he will be carrying on the band's legacy going forward. You can believe what you want to believe. I've been here before many times and know I'm not going to get a pat on the back for an "I told you so" when the time comes and the rumors are proven correct.

Some goof posted this encounter with EVH not even a month ago.... Doesn't look too bad to me.....

 

But it was filmed two years ago (per someone familiar with it on another forum).

 

What a creepy ending in that video.
