Looking for a good set of pure nickel rounds strings with a wound G in 11's to start. The guitar these are going in will have a Bigsby.

    Coming off Thomastic Infeld flats.

    Cheers!

Actually, are you familiar with monel strings?

That's the alloy that was used in the 50's-60's

Martin makes a set for their acoustic guitars, and they'll work on electrics, too, called Retro. They will have a wound G, but a lot fatter than .018!

The other maker of monel strings is Pyramid - Monel Classics, and they are a vintage round core as well.

Edit:. I don't think the .018 in the Pyramid MO1148 "SPECIAL" .011 set is wound.

    From a website:

"Monel steel - decades of this material had been almost forgotten by the strings manufacturers. Here is the proud announcement of the return of the real Monel strings.

Until the early 70's either steel or Monel was used as Pure Nickel Electric Guitar Strings material for manufacturing. Unfortunately, this trend was lost towards finding something cheaper, thus nickel plated steel strings. The nickel-plated steel strings were then wound on a hexagonal steel core and mass-produced.

These Monel steel strings are manufactured back in the old tradition and wrap the wire Monel a round steel core. If you are looking for an alternative to the Pure Nickel strings, then the Monel Classics well fit the bill. The Monel Classics include the great tonal gap between the nickel-plated steel and the Pure Nickel strings."

I'm a fan of the D'addarrio NYXL 11 gauge with a wound G. Nice tone and lasts fairly decent depending on how much you tickle the guitar. I get about 30 days out of em. I'm a frequent Ernie Ball player but sometimes go with the D'addarrio's. You can't go wrong.

I can never find sets with a wound G, I buy standard power slinky 11's and a 5 pack of wound G's.

sorry I am aware they aren't pure nickel, so not sure why I'm replying. :D

Ernie Ball Mammoth Slinky strings come with a wound G. They start in 12s, if you're badass enough to handle that.

    I am not.

D'addario has a set of tens with a wound g in their XL series. It's what I use. They're nickel wound.

They're 11's but the EXL115W is the set I use on my Stratocaster that has pickups with the original style staggered polepieces. If you want to step up to 12's they have the XL series EJ21 jazz light gauge with a wound G. It's what I use, and came stock on, my Godin 5th Avenue.

Pyramid nickel classics 11 - 50 are my favourites. Round core, pure nickel wrap, wound 3rd.

    (There's also an 11- 48 version, but those have a plain 3rd)

Ok some good options here. I'm coming from the low tension Thomastic Infeld flats in 12 on these, which I use to like but after switching to rounds on my other guitars, I can't stand them anymore. Plus this guitar has Lollar CC's in it which sadly I have never tried with rounds.

Check out the made in Nashville StringJoy's.. You can order sets pretty much any way you want..
    Made in the USA by a small local company. I've been using them for about 3 months now and like them a lot..The 11's I use go 11 - 14 - 20w - 28 - 38 - 50.

I use the same strings...same gauge. They're the only strings for electrics I've used for over a year now since finding out about them.
LOVE these strings, they cost a couple of bucks more than your average strings...but they keep that new string brightness longer. I used to use Ernie Ball's, and hose are great strings, but these IMO are better. The ability to pick your own gauge for each string is great. For those of use that use wound 3rd's, our choices tend to be limited for gauges in prepackaged sets so this option from Stringjoy is great if you like light top/heavy bottoms or anything in between.

Give them a try...you'll love 'em.

Whoa, I'd like to find a set of those just to put in my case.

(Chet signed the pickguard in '93 and then I was able to sneak the whole guitar back stage in '94!)[IMG]
