What's a good outro?

The outro to Van Halen's "Love in a Simple Rhyme" always intrigued me....it sounded like the basis of a great song, and seemed to have nothing to do with the original song.

I like the piano tacked onto the end of Layla. And I'm not really a huge Clapton fan...but it is a good one!

Yeah. He was the drummer. He heard voices that forced him to kill his mama. Horrible.

And several years ago, his GF at the time of the recording sessions resurfaced in the media, claiming SHE was the one that showed that piano piece to Gordon, and now somebody owes her some money.

You can't invent this sort of stuff.

It's really my favorite part of the song...seriously.

He did steal it from Rita Coolidge. He was dating her when wrote it. Others who knew both Gordon & Coolidge have a backed up the claim...I think Bobby Whitlock's YouTube channel has a video discussing that. He was there when she wrote it and backed up her claim. She tried to contact Clapton when the album came out, but Robert Stigwood told her something to the effect of, you're a girl and you don't have the money to fight it.
Gordon was apparently quite the SOB, go figure. Whitlock tells a funny story on his YT channel about Gordon pissing off Clapton during a DD tour to the point Clapton threw Gordon's suitcase, with all his clothes, out of a window of a moving train.

Priscilla recorded the song with Booker T in '79 as "Time"
Honestly "Time" is kinda bland.

Priscilla was married to Booker T and later 60 Minues' Ed Bradley. Ironically, she met a fate somewhat similar to Gordon's mother, her husband shot her and then himself 4 years ago.

I've listened to this recently and it just caught my attention again where it's like the outro is the best part of the song.

What are some of your favorite outros?

And god I love Stuart Copeland picking it up at 2:48 and the toms at 2:52

Mark Knopfler/ Dire Straits has several. Sultans of Swing is the most obvious, Tunnel of Love and Skateaway are excellent, too.

Born to die in Berlin-the Ramones.

The song ends, as the last track on adios amigos, then gives you 7 minutes of silence before starting into them covering Spiderman.

Helena- Misfits
It's ok for the song, but loops perfectly Into the opening track of the album if the cd player is setup to go back to the start.

Also by them, Saturday Night, some kinda hate, and last caress have good ending outros.

Same in the End- Sublime

Theres several that come to mind. Basically, anything but a fade out has the potential to be memorable.

I don't see how that's possible, since the first track (on the version I have) and the last track are Kong At The Gates.

However, there's a NIN album that does something similar. Of course I can't remember what the hell album that is.
