What would you buy for $3000?

I’d buy a DR ToneMaster and an American Elite. I like the N4 pickups and could buy them used at a price that would let me get a Fender Mirror Image Delay as well.

The Selmer Chieftain amp is like two 100W Hiwatt DR103s in stereo (8xEL34) with two Partridge output transformers. Wildly impractical for apartment dwellers. One is for sale on that auction site.

Peavey bandit, the cheapest squier telecaster, and a delay pedal. Btw, those cheap squiers are really good. The pick ups are nothing compared to the fender thing, but they are good otherwise.

Because great sound comes first and foremost from a great guitar with a great amp.

However, that would leave me with about $30.

So a Joyo Vintage Overdrive it is.
The Joyo sounds 100% the same to me as the Ibanez ones that go for hundreds. And I like tubescreamers. Seems to be an unpopular opinion nowadays for some weird reason but I still love em. Other overdrives are great as well, but a TS would be the first one on the list.

With this combination of gear, I'd be more than happy.

Fender American Performer or Fender American Professional Telecaster and a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue amp or a Fender '68 Pro Reverb reissue amp. With the 15% discount available from some retailers you could probly squeeze those in under $3K. If you got some money left over, a couple of Boss pedals. Maybe a Boss DD-3T Delay and a Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive pedal. (Don't have a Deluxe or Super, so the pic is a Princeton and Vibro Champ).
