I stopped buying pedals & sold all I had except 2 reverbs & a tuner. Guess what happened?

I bought 2 new guitars, I actually spend time practicing & I have actually been learning more.

...you would never need a bigger pedal board. But realistically, why? The pedal board rebuild/évolution is very exciting in my book. Almost as exciting as the pedals themselves. I think I'm going to use tweed in my next build ;).

I bought my last pedal more than a month ago, a Klone in a string of five klones.
Now I play the damn tones instead of shopping for them!

You would have more money in the bank and your spouse/partner would love you more.

    Probably not much.

Your bank account would have more money in it if you didn’t start buying something else to replace that.

Pedals (and all products really) will continue to be produced en masse until many many many stop buying that product. It would take a colossal unified global effort to limit and realistically reduce the amount of junk produced. The positive with guitar gear is that its more likely to be swapped around and traded/sold versus end up in some landfill, but it’s gotta go somewhere.

Maybe not the answer you were looking for.

    What is it good for?
    Absolutely nothing (say it again)

I good easily get by with 4 of the roughly 12 pedals I own. In fact, 4 of them are boxed up and ready to be sold and a fifth is in purgatory.
Effect pedals are a viral disease. There are new variants introduced every day. These are produced by an ever growing number of labs (manufacturers).

I think I’ll always love pedals. I love the tactile connection to the controls. An end to NPDs sounds sad.

At best, you'll develop a socially crippling, marriage-destroying Lego habit.

At worst, you'll start hand-casting and meticulously painting careful reproductions of 1980s Ral Partha Dungeons and Dragons miniatures.

It's a hard road you're considering. Best get back to Reverb now.

This sounds like a pedal addiction something like a shoe addiction...nothing will happen if you stop! Learn to love what your guitar actually sounds like!

I do agree--the Telecaster was built on guitar-chord-amp, something many people have lost sight of (or the ear for it).

I pretty much stopped buying pedals when I began to build my own. I pretty much stopped building pedals when I got an Axe-FX and it had all the FX I needed inside as well. In fact I got it more for the effects then the amp sims. When I had a pedal board I could justify each new buy or build saying it might make it onto my board. Now nothing makes it onto my board anymore. So it's pointless to buy or build anything any more.

So now I build guitars instead.

I'd like to see more pedals come out of basement and garage shops in the good old USA!

Likeliest consequence is it will rip a hole in the time-space continuum and we’ll all die screaming as Earth is thrown off its orbit. Please don’t stop buying pedals. Please.

Personally, I like to see guitars and amps made in the US and are what made America leader of the music world. These are the sounds I grew up on and put me on the stairway to heaven )))

Well, I’ve read the entire thread and my conclusion, considering the most brilliant minds on earth (guitarists) have weighed in with some deeply thought out replies, is this: Don’t even think about it man! The existence of our species (guitarists) is hanging in the balance. It’s all on you. If you stop now, we’re all (guitarists, that is) destined for oblivion. Can you live with that? Do you hear what you’re suggesting?

    think about it

I've totally won, after over a year of pedalboard building, because I've run out of wish list apart from three pedals I can't afford! Hooray!
