I am not sure I understand what you are asking.
Problem?

Tom getting sick and dying could have been a setback for the band.

I have never been certain if John understood the deal when he sold the rights to their songs, or if he got snookered. But I seem to recall at some point he discovered he couldn't perform their songs without paying royalties or something like that.

A lot of things about bands and music business changed in that time period.

It may also have been that the "live jam-band" style wasn't selling that well.

CCR were incredibly popular, in their day.
As they progressed, the other members wanted to have their songs featured on the albums, too.
Unfortunately, the other members did not have nearly the writing, singing, and playing chops of John F.
The later albums did not sell as well, as a result.
Mardi Gras is a prime example.
The other members were perfectly adequate players, but that’s about it.
John had all the juice.
After they broke up, John did his Blue Ridge Rangers album, and much later Centerfield.
Management and inter-band lawsuits ensued.
There’s nothing like legal maneuvering to kill the creativity of a band.
They actually had a decent run, IMO.

Perfectly stated. CCR was a band I enjoyed very much and still I do.

As I have heard Fogerty explain it, he was not happy with the band's performance. Due to various delays they went on WAY later than they were scheduled, there was not much of an awake/cogent crowd, and their performance reflected that.

Thing I really dug about John Fogerty writing of all those great hit CCR songs is that his themes were rarely girl/boy love stories:
Proud Mary
Born on the Bayou
Fortunate Son
Willie & The Poor Boys
Bad Moon Rising
Green River
Travelin' Band
Who'll Stop the Rain
Run Through the Jungle
Lookin' Out My Back Door
Have You Ever Seen the Rain

John Fogerty must have an ego the size of the lower 48. Not reconciling with his dying brother is inexcusable as a human.
Also lost a lot of personal respect for Elliot Easton for playing in Creedance Clearwater Revisited. Just like Little River Band.
A dirty business.

There isn’t much a little Creedence can’t fix.

Once JF started doing that hiney hi song I totally wrote him off but literally everything he did before that is every bit as good as any rock’n’roll band that ever graced a stage.

I love CCR

john fogerty badly mismanaged them. also their music gets pretty boring after a while.
My understanding was it was the manager, not the other band members, with whom JF had the gripe. Resulting in the song "Vanz Can't Dance" on Centerfield. In fact, JF got sued and had to change the name and lyrics, the original named the guy directly. JF felt like he got hoodwinked out of his song rights, then the guy went and lost all their money in bad investments. That's the story as I read it. I'm sure JF tells it putting himself in the best light, though (sure, everyone does that).
