What type of wood is this

    Hi all

    I was given about 15 feet of this wood. I was told it was cherry but it does not look like it to me. Attached are some pictures of it. It is 1 1/8 inch thick just over a foot wide. Thanks in advnace for the help

    1st pics look like cherry, bottom ones don't.

    Could just be some wierd grain though.

    thanks thats what I was hoping. Has anyone built a guitar or a neck out of cherry?

    Martin has cherry necks, and there's at least one forumite here who has made a tele neck from cherry.
    Quartersawn is always preferred to flatsawn, but with a dual action trussrod and a proper finish, and if the wood is properly dried, shouldn't be any risk of warp.

    cool thanks for the replys. The wood was kiln dried and stored in a shed where it did not get wet nor was it exposed to the elements. I was told by the guy I got it from that it was stored for over 5 years.

    It will make fine necks, bodies, backs, sides, inlays, bridges, or anything else you would want.

    cool I am planing on making a explorer style guitar and bass with it and a tele guitar and bass if there is enough left. also if i can get the necks out of the wood too i am going to do that too. Thanks again for the help.

    An explorer is a great plan, cherry and korina aren't all that different, except that korina is open-grained and I think cherry may be more dense.

    glued cherry frettboard on cherry neck. made the truss rod out of 3/16" drill rod.
