What "tube screamerish" pedal?

Going through a couple of overdrives lately I found out that a tube screamerish pedal is what I like best.
I play into clean amps (own a vibrolux but often use backline amps like twin reverbs) pretty quietly and use mostly the neck pickup and middle position of my tellies.
So the "bass loss" and "midrange hump" works fine for me (I have a more transparent simble drive also but it sounds a bit muddy to me as it does not cut bass) I don't use much drive, just want a little bit of "hair" and punch for some solos and some rhythm parts (I have an old Rat for Distortion should I ever need that). I do not want to push the amp with the pedal either as I play most parts and solos clean and need the same loudness for my clean tones.

I had a ts 808 for a short time and loved the sound – but it would not always work on batteries – send it back, got a replacement with the same problem and gave up.
I never heard of that problem before but could not get rid of it. As the overdrive is the only pedal I use I do not always want to carry a power supply to be sure.

So for now I'm using a cheap Harley Benton (Joyo rebranded) Vintage Overdrive – with the feeling that I am indeed missing something. To me the original Ibanez pedal sounded a bit warmer, deeper and more dynamic.
OTOH the cheap clone sounds charming too and may be enough for my purpose (I maybe use it once or twice a night).

What do you think?
I am thinking about giving the TS another try (maybe the TS 9 which is cheaper and looks more rugged) - or maybe trying something different. Last week a guy at our gig played an analog man king of tone and sounded very good – through a peavy solid state amp. So I am definetely considering different brands ...

What tube screamerish pedal would you recommend for best tone and dynamics?

Thanks a lot. I know that may have been covered before, but let me just know what you'd recommend for my application (neck pickup into a clean amp, just a bit of hair).

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with the Ibanez TS808...mine has been wonderful for years. In the past, I've liked the Maxon variant as well. I also had the Ibanez Sound Tank version. All were very good.

I'd suggest a Green Rhino mkii. Absolutely love mine, very dynamic and it does the touch of hair thont well IMO. The three tone controls are a nice touch too. The mkiv is probably fine as well but I don't have any experience with it.

Visual Sound. Get their earliest version of either the Route 66 or Jekyll & Hyde, both have the very best TS ever paired with either a great compressor or a very good distortion on the other side. The newer versions are good but not magical-sounding

Exactly right...try as I may to replace the now Jurassic 1st run Route 66 with upscale esoterica, nothing else comes close...

I don't understand that either – one day it was running on batteries, the next day it wouldn't. It always worked with the power supply. The replacement I got had the same fault. Maybe they had a faulty run. Think I should give it another try?

Did you check the voltage of the battery?

Thank folks – do you think that your suggestions are better then the Joyo Vintage Overdrive I have? Why?

No. That's a great TS derivative.

All of em sound a little different but they all pretty much do the same thing.

I am a big fan of the Maxon OD808 reissue because it's actually more of a TS10, which has a slightly smoother/flatter mid hump than the TS9 which is more honky.

They all sound pretty much the same though.

When it's pushing a Rat, the Maxon OD808 has a certain expressive magic that the TS9s don't to me.

Another vote for the Bad Monkey. I've had mine at least 10 years and I've never had a problem with it. Does almost clean boost to pretty raunchy when necessary and has a direct out for mixer for recording or catastrophic amp failure.

And I haven't seen the FullDrive or Keeley Red Dirt listed yet. Lots of guys love the FullDrive as it's a TS variant with a boost and the Keeley Red Dirt is basically a modded TS.

You could always try grabbing a used one for cheap if you're fond of the sound..?

Maybe I have already what I want ...
Given the price of the Joyo (I paid 30 € new) I keep thinking: "There must be something better out there" OTOH the electronic parts and case may be 10 € worth (if that) so they still make a good profit.
