What to pair with a fuzz?

I built a clone of the Bearfoot Arctic White Fuzz, but I found I only have 1590BB enclosures in my stash...which means there’s room to throw another circuit in with it! Now I’ve never built a fuzz, so I’m not sure if I should pair it with some kind of booster, OD, maybe a parallel blender??? Sound off!

I love over drive before fuzz, a super overdrive, tube screamer or a rat could be a great addition; you could also put an order switch to get max flexibility.

Or you can put a delay or a tremolo after the fuzz, another great combo.

With the right amp and guitar a fuzz/echo combo pedal can be the ultimate grab and go pedalboard.

Two other thoughts that occurred to me:
1. A parallel blender. Never heard a fuzz face with a clean blend so I’m intrigued.

2. Put an EarthQuaker Hoof on the other side, so the pedal offers a FF variant and a Muff variant.

Booost!!!

I grabbed a Thorpyfx The Veteran and it has a Rangemaster Boost and a fuzz circuit in it. They work independently or together.

Or I second a Octavia circuit. I have a Suhr Rufus Reloaded Fuzz which has a Octavia circuit built in.

If it was me I'd put a three band eq before the fuzz.

Aside from the character of the grit a fuzz produces, the make or break feature is generally a problem with the eq.
A tone knob may be stock on a fuzz that lacks treble even with the tone control dimed.
Even worse though is a fuzz that has too much bass, andd next would be too little bass.

Add in the fact that how much bass goes into a fuzz dramatically changes the character of the fuzziness, and it's a very useful feature that might turn a novelty pedal into one that really useful making music.

Even if you like the eq of it stock you can still use an eg circuit before it too boost or cut gain, or the adjust for different amps, different rooms, or different fuzziness.

I found cool blowing up the amp sounds hitting a fuzz factory clone with a Zen Drive clone...

Used the ZD to add more sizzle to the high end plus the note bloom thing.

I'm looking for a fuzz to place after a Sweet Honey Overdrive.

I'm playing through a Bandmaster Reverb, which is like a Super Reverb.

I don't want to hijack the thread, just suggesting that maybe the amp has something to do with making a good choice? I don't know, not really a fuzz guy.

Fuzz curious, though.

Yeah IME the amp is pretty important and makes or breaks great fuzz toanz!

For example scooped mids fuzz'z like muffs sound sorta like a hive of bees into a mid scooped BF/SF Fender but more fat through a mid forward Marshall.

Or the ZVex Fuzzolo has pretty massive bass (like many fuzz'z) so flubs out in amps that flub out if fed too much bass but sounds great through amps that can handle the bass.

More subtly and less eq based, some classic fuzz sounds only happen through big amps turned down where only the fuzz grain is heard, while small amps adding their own dirt grain mash the cool fuzzy shrapnel edges into a more molten liquidy sound.

Pushing a big amps imput has a similar effect where the power section may be loafing in the clean realm but the first preamp tube clips and softens the fuzzy goodness into blander toob toanz we may like but are less about the fuzz than the amp.
