I rescued this thing from a dumpster today! It's an old tape recorder from Dolby. Really cool looking, and heavy as sin! I have no interest in making my own cassete tapes, but I figured I could turn it into something useful.
Any ideas for what I should do with it? Tape echo unit? Use the chassis for and amp? Make a pedalboard out of the enclosure? Something entirely different that I haven't thought of?

My band mate just had an old Akai 4 track reel to reel brought back to life
Was not cheap but was clean and it sounds great
Tapes for it are as pricey as target shooting these days

Clean it up and buy a 7" inch reel for $40 or so and it will make a nice decoration and conversation piece. That's the limits of my "technical" abilities. Converting to a tape echo or repurposing for anything else? I got nothing!

There's just something cool about a reel-to-reel tape recorder.

Not much point turning it into an amp, it looks solid-state and the chassis is way too big.

If the unit turns on but motors dont work, you can try plugging guitar into tape unit and then output into amp. Put tape unit source/tape switch onto source and then use the tape deck volume and see how it overdrives and increases the sound. It should be working like a pre amp. Like a booster pedal but cleaner.
