A friend of mine gave me this live edge piece (no idea what species the wood is), and I'm wondering what to do with it? It is about 5' X 1' X 1" and it's really heavy. I was thinking to do a cool guitar body out of it, but again it's really heavy and I have to laminate it because it's only an inch thick. An obvious choice would be a table, but any other ideas are highly appreciated?

Just my 2 cents. I'd save it for another project. I like smooth guitars myself. I'd never buy or play a guitar that had a sharp or rough edge to it, or any rough texture for that matter. That includes stuff I've made too :).

If that's all you got, a single shelf is about all you'll get out of it.

I vote you make a guitar and try to use it w/o changing the live edge as much as possible. I could see a jem style monkey grip out of that spot with the hole. that would look amazing. just a thought.

    Thanks everybody!

The wood is really heavy, so I'll probably make a small patio table out of it.
