Saw this for sale in my local market and I'm curious about it.

No serial# that I can see on either the front or back of the headstock. Nothing on the heel. No "Made In..." anywhere. Just a "Designed and backed by Fender", which I think I may have seen on Squires – but this doesn't seem to be one?

Is it legit, or a KO?

It’s cool but definitely not a fender. Maybe a squier with a fender logo. Partscaster maybe?

I'd say Squier Bullet with a replaced neck plate, new decal, and the serial and Made In China sanded off the back of the headstock.

On the money with that. I think they are made in Indonesia though.

There's one for sale locally with a ton of upgrades that I've considered. It DOES have a pretty red flake finish.

If the price is right and the body and paint are right could be a nice modding platform. I’m digging the sparkle. Might even be good as is or need minimal work/upgrading.

Yeah, I tried messaging him to let him know, but no response. He's either trying to hide the fact that he modded it, OR he didn't know and is upset that he overpaid someone else for it.

Exactly the trouble with people illegally putting Fender decals on non-Fender guitars. Hate that!

Looks exactly like my Squier Bullet, with the Squier decal replaced, etc.

I love mine, though I've played some in GC that weren't set up as well. I wouldn't pay more than $130 or so for that one (I paid $119 new on sale), and I'd get rid of the Fender decal.

I agree this is horrible. But to be clear, it is in no way illegal to put a fender decal on a non fender instrument. It is only illegal to sell that instrument under the false pretense of being an authentic fender instrument. The law is crystal clear on this.
It is no more illegal than putting a Ford decal on a Chevy.
    It’s buyer beware.

I don't think it's illegal to put whichever decal on whatever you want. I'm certain that it's unethical to sell something under false pretenses.

One could always feign ignorance, I suppose. Perhaps that's this chaps game.

The way I see it, anyone who's willing to spend close to $400 for a guitar will likely be savvy enough to research what they're getting. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

Has there ever been a USA made Fender, with a plastic lined truss access?

I would bet that Fender would tell you that it is illegal. Try asking them to send you a headstock decal and see what response you get.

I'm pretty sure that if I wanted to put a Fender decal on my Gibson Les Paul, there isn't a darn thing Fender could say or do about it. As long as I didn't try to resell it as a "legitimate" Fender.

There are too-many-to-list, legitimate companies that have been selling "restorative" reproduction decals for ages. AFAIK, Fender hasn't attempted to shut any of them down. Anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Even with a single, one-off copy on a local marketplace, I'd be hard-pressed to think of any example of Fender taking action against an individual for fraud. Again, anyone correct me if I'm wrong(?)

Now, if you're dumb enough start a business selling reproductions with Fender decals and fake S/Ns, that's another issue entirely. Make sure you're all lubed up, lol!

Contact the seller, informing him he is selling a bogus guitar. That might make him rethink his shady selling ways
