I have a memory of a tune that I can’t place, an old easy listening or big band tune. It’s in 3/4 time. From what I remember, the chord progression is something like this:

    C
    C maj7
    C maj6
    C (2 bars)
    Dm
    Dm w/maj7
    Dm7 or F
    G
    G7
    C

From there on it’s not as clear to me what is the progression vs. what I perceive as an appropriate flow.

I’d like to find and adapt it with appropriate recognition to the original I heard. Any tunes like this that you remember?

If it were one of those old turn-of-the-20th-century songs, it would have a countermelody that went C-B-A-G. But in such songs, the chords would be C em am C (or G).

Such as "The Band Played On."

Janis Ian "At Seventeen" immediately came to mind. It's easy listening but it's not 3/4 and it's not an old big band tune.

Replace the 4th C chord with an A and it is similar to My Way.

Looks an awful lot like I/II/V/I with some passing tones, so about half of them.

It could easily be an A minor or A minor 7th. The song I remember wasn’t My Way. Thanks, though!
