OK, so I have an extra picktguard for my squier strat and I plan to use a dimarzio hot rail I got as an extra when I bought my Squier Tele used. I painted the cover in case you notice the "dimarzio" lettering isn't on there. It was a neon green originally....

So I could either take the pots from my starcaster, or buy new ones. I may put a second pup in the one with the dimarzio but I'm still undecided. I wanted to do a super simple 1 pickup guitar to see if I could like it and live with it.....

If there are pots that would work better with the dimarzio, I could use advice on that.

Also, anyone with these hot rails where do they sound good to you? Are they also good to go when slammed to the pickguard or do they need to be up?

Thank you guys.

I’m using 250k pots for a Dimarzio billy corgan bridge pickup. Sounds and works fine. Some of the fender noiseless single coils are darker and can go either way, the dimarzio seems fine with 250k.
I got the dimarzio wired to a push push switch for parallel/series wiring which works great.

I have the pickup height set similar to my other strat bridge pickups, kinda low with the bass side higher.

I keep going round and round in my head about which position I want to try it.... Neck or bridge, neck or bridge. Heck I even like the middle position but only if it can be really low.

I use 50Ok on dimarzio track types.
I can cut highs with a tone control.
But you can not add them, if you need more, have ran the satch track, fast track 1, fast track 2, pro track, on 500k pots. Have a cruzer on the way but have not tried that one yet. So far...
Have not had any over bright, or ice pick issues. With 500k pots.

when I rewire, I put all good stuff in, cts pots. Oak or clr switch’s, switchcarft jacks, and overkill grounding, I know it will last a lifetime.

this is one I just finished, runs 2 blades type and a full size
A mo-joe full size, fast rack 1, and a satch track, all humbucker, push pull 500k pots w/coil cuts, 50s Gibson style vol/tone and oak “6” way switch that adds neck and bridge to the usual strat positions.
Absolutely rips. For that shreader style ....high gain, or modern clean tones ...
The track types however are not vintage quack tones....far from it.
Even with coils cut.

what pickup is that? What number is on it? Cannot recommended a position till I know what it is...

DougM already pointed out the Dimarzio/Duncan issue. If they are Dimarzio, check their website. Each pickup description has a "tech talk" section, where they will show recommended tone and volume pot values.

I haven't noticed a similar feature on the Duncan site, and I've heard conflicting info on recommended pot values. I'd contact them if you do have a Duncan.
