I used to use these Dava Control picks exclusively. Nowadays I use them for acoustic but do the black Jazz III XLs for electric.

Used heavy (1.0) flat picks for years. Love the Dunlop Ultex picks. Switched to thumb picks, but I still use the Ultex. Still checking out other brands.

I need to hear sand paper against my strings. Anyone know of anything sand-paperier than gator grip? I will sacrifice shape, profile, grip, feel, tone, everything... I am a scratch addict and there is no going back 😩
Try nylon picks; with use, they get a bit 'ragged' on the bevels, nice and scratchy. I have a Dunlop 0.88mm nylon that I don't use because of that very thing.
Also, go to a sign shop and see if they have any off-cuts or scraps of Sintra or Komatex (AKA Expanded PVC) that they'll give you and cut out some pick shapes. Because it's basically hard foam, any given edge will never be burnished by the strings. Not quite sandpaper, but close.

I preferred Tortex orange picks for a very long time. I wanted a balance between the strength of the greens and the snap of the reds. I wore through picks pretty often though.
Fast forward to a few months ago when I was enlightened to the benefits of thicker picks and filing points on worn picks, so I bought some Tortex Flow in green (0.88mm), as I didn't want to simply dive in to the 1mm and up camp barefooted. I'm really liking them and considering getting some thicker ones.
To that end, I got a few pieces of grey ABS plastic from some discarded printer parts and cut a Flow-shaped pick out of it. It's exactly 1.5mm and despite playing with it pretty heavily over the last couple days since I cut it out, I'm not seeing any beveling yet. ABS isn't the world's hardest plastic, so I'm a bit surprised, but I'm sure it'll wear in the next week or so.

Used to use the dunlop tortex orange ones when I was gigging regularly (metal). However about a year ago I received a free sample of a super black, a 2.8mm one. Having previously hated anything thick, I found these like a damascene conversion were just utterly brilliant, so I ordered a couple boxes. Wont use anything else now

Most of the people I encounter think I've absolutely lost my mind when I tell them that I use picks this thick.... until they try one.

From L to R: DjangoGuitarpicks (4.7mm), Manouche Django (4.5mm), Manouche Romino (4.5mm)

I haven't used anything under 1.0mm for almost 30 years. I used to gig with the black 2.0mm Dunlop Gators. Once I began exploring picks I really became enamored with boutique faux tortoise shell picks. I started at around the 2.0mm mark and gradually kept creeping up in thickness. I've tried most... Pearse, Hense, EML, JB's, etc., but since I discovered these I doubt I'll go back. They are so smooth. No "click" on the strings. No drag. They have a nice mellow tone, which is what I like.

I use Fender medium Celluloids for electric and Dunlop .60 or .73 Tortex for acoustics.
