Sorry to revive this thread, but after reading the above post, I decided to try out some thicker picks. I've loved V-Picks ever since I first tried them, and have been using their Small/Lite pick almost exclusively for years. I ordered six picks ranging in thickness from 2.75 to 4.0 mm, with various beveled edges, ranging in price from $5-10.

I tested their Diamond, Hotter Tamale, Dimension (w/ ghost rim), Zaza, Jester (w/ghost rim), and Van Zen. I eliminated the Zaza, Jester, and Van Zen immediately. The sounds they produced were either extremely soft/warm or extremely glassy.

The Diamond was decidedly my favorite- well balanced highs, mids, and lows with an amazing texture. 4.0 mm thickness, $10/ea. The Hotter Tamale and the Dimension are picks I definitely can and will use, but I have found a pick in the Diamond that will replace the Small/Lite pick. All V-Picks are made with a material that seems to be particularly grabby without being tacky.

Thanks to SShrews824 for planting the seed and to V-Picks for their amazing line-up of wonderful picks.

Glad to hear that it was a good experience for you. Sure, they aren't for everyone, but they have seemed to work out for me and my style of playing for sure. They say, "never say never", but I doubt I'll ever go back to thinner picks.

I hereby rennounce my previous post about green Tortex - there is a new pick favorite in town for me in 2023...

Herco Holy Grail! They may cost for 6, the same as a 12 pack or more of everything else, but I LOVE them.

Unlike most, i like the gritty sound of a pick thats a bit chewed up on the edge. Celluloid is what i keep going back to, the fender 351 standard size heavy. But i started using a different pick a few months back and thought after years i had finally changed, but it only lasted a couple months b4 i went back to fender celluloid. But the other nite i tried a few different jazz III's i have in a pick box full of former experiments and i am thinking of trying to change to them. Chances are the same thing will happen and i will go back to the old standby but we'll see. The one i gravitated to of about 4 different jazz III's is a black 1.1mm tortex who's edge is worn and is giving me a nice but of that grit i like from a worn edge. This isn't worn fom me using it, it was one i found somewhere and somebody had used it a long time. I'm liking the sound almost as mi=uch ans worn celluloid so i am going to use it for a while and see if it becomes my #1. But a life time of celluloid and being ued to that feel and sound will be hard for the jazz III to overcome. We shall see. It's thicker than i like but i may buy some thinner ones and see if that makes it easier to switch for good.

A couple of ToneSlabs showed up.

Very similar to BlueChips. I like the sound they make. I like the feel.
