Ted gives a big thumbs-up to that
Threads that starts with "Talk me out of buying a..."
What about when the OED says it?
(also sometimes annoying: someone not reading ahead before responding to something that’s already been addressed )
That’s a good place for a Rat.
Don't have any pet peeves.
If I don't like a thread, i scroll on past.
I'm certainly not going to pop into the thread to whine about it's existence.(see what I did here?)
Men who call a Gibson gibby. I got nauseous just typing it. Do you call Fender fendy or Marshall marshy?
People who offer too much information such that it looks like they're more interested in showing how smart they are than adding anything new.
I'll even forgive that if it's good natured.
Mostly these days the only thing that irritates me from anyone online (or in person) is meanness. I can deal with everything else
I insist on formality: it's a Lester.
I actually think that's OK. Google it and see.
But imagine ... the first time someone googled that ... it WASN"T a verb!
My biggest issue is when someone drops in on a thread just to be like "I don't like this!". What do you want me to say? Congratulations? We all know that everyone has their own likes and dislikes, the thread is (usually) there for you to talk about something you like, not to bag on it.
I pretty much stopped posting threads in the music sharing section here because of this. I know that the great majority of people on here aren't into metal, not looking for everyone to fall in love with it. But when every reply is like "this isn't music" or "this is horrible" it gets pretty demoralizing.
Yeah, I've got kids for that!
True. Language evolves, though. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.
Or even the worstest.
Could be self-referential, that one there
I'm guilty of that from time to time, but sometimes there'll be 10 or 20 pages of a thread to read thru, with no guarantee that your own thoughts on the topic have been posted. Sometimes (particularly if you're reading TDPRI at work) it wastes less time to throw out a quick post and if it's already been said, it's not the end of the world?
Totally. Just taking the opportunity to make fun of myself.
thank you for entertaining that possibility
When people write an entire essay detailing a lot of mundane info leading up to a simple one sentence question...
I tire quickly of the old-man-shakes-fist-at-cloud posts. As soon as they say, "these kids today..." you know its starting at the bottom of the barrel and going to start digging soon.
Here is a perfect example.
