I'm looking for new riffs to play. My current favorite comes from Funk #49 from Joe Walsh and The James Gang:

I'd try more Stones riffs but I don't like the hassle of alternate tunings.

There's plenty of Stones riffs in standard; Gimme Shelter is a good place to start.

    Or....

Dedicating one tele to open g is a good excuse to have one more guitar!

I'm not sure that I have a favorite on guitar, but on bass I tend to play "King Nothing" and "My Friend of Misery" by Metallica often.

That soft sounding opening to JJ Cale's "City Girls" as well as the guitar solo. Easy to play in C# but makes everyone think you're a hot player- been doing it since he brought out the " Grasshopper" album in vinyl.

My job in one of the bands is “Riff guy” basically.

Riffs like All Right Now and Hurts so Good actually taught me a ton about how to think “riff” instead of “strumming chords”.

    Stones too.

I don't play riffs while noodling, I either noodle randomly-ish exploring chord forms within the scales etc, or I play songs. I play the Iron Man riff sometimes for giggles, like if we're about to start something completely different in a rehearsal. Also the Needle and the Damage Done if it's an acoustic.
