looking for listening recommendations similar to Gilmour in Comfortably Numb.

i.e. Those players who can reach deep into the heart of the listener in music that rolls along at a slow ballad pace.

    Thank you.

Ry Cooder's slide solo on John Hiatt's Lipstick Sunset is one that fits that description for me.

Since this song is an instrumental, you might say the entire thing is a "solo". I never fail to get a lump in my throat when I hear it.

I dunno about favorite, but this short & sweet solo was the first to come to mind & latest one to give me goosebumps on first listen.

Don't know why but the Comfortably Numb solo doesn't move me at all. Sounds assembled, clinical. Of course, they're all assembled in a sense.

A couple that immediately spring to mind. The solo to fade out in I Can't Tell You Why. The first solo in Fooled Around and Fell In Love.

I like to play the entire song "Memories" from the musical CATS as a guitar solo. The ladies love it...a good one to slow things down around the 11th hour.

Mick Ronson has been mentioned, for good reason.
The heart-rending guitar throughout this track still inspires me in its simplicity and emotion.

I'm not the typical Phish fan but I always dug this one. You can skip to about 2:24 (I tried to embed it that way but TDPRI stripped the time stamp).
