one thing about Josh Smith, he's playing a .013-.058 string set, tuned STANDARD. that's lunacy.

he's definitely on my shortlist of great sounding players, and Kirk Fletcher, too. you really can't go wrong with anything they're doing.

There’s no way to pick a “favorite”. There are some that stand out not only for their great tone but also their uniqueness. There’s the Iceman, Tele player Albert Collins. The inimitable Buddy Guy On a Strat. Tab Benoit, another tele player is very inspiring. Also Melvin Taylor has whats seems like an endless supply of licks to go along with his excellent tone.

Beat me to it. Treble and volume jacked. Or my username, cheapo Valco/Supro/Montgomery Wards made in Chicago amp dimed to cut the heads off the lines into the other clubs in the neighborhood and bring the crowds into the Wolf's gigs.

I know right! I dabbled with .11-.54 but .13's would take so much energy to play. Kirk Fletcher and Josh both have some cool pedal chains. That Pedal Show covered both of their rigs very extensively.

Even though I appreciate people who play straight into an amp, I think pedals can really get a person closer to the TONE now days, more than ever before. Or say you like playing with a tone like Albert King, but there's a few songs where I have to dial in a little Jimi with a octoFUZZ. There's so many options/inspirations, which is my point here.

And the player’s whose tone to me is unmatched, Gary Moore. His 59 LP he bought from Peter Green was Unique, but Gary could get tone out of a match box guitar. The 50th anniversary show where Gary plays Red House on his Torino red Strat is one of the best Strat tones I’ve ever heard.

Please don't laugh but I REALLY like the guitar on the Animals "House of the Rising Sun".
I get that tone with a Les Paul with Wilkinson P-90's and a Vox 15 amp. Perfecto.

Same here! 15 watt in a club 5 at home. Clean channel at 11-12 o'clock, Burn 9 o'clock. Low gain OD pedal if I need just a little extra. Clean gives that Fender BF tone Burn set to low gain the Dumble type. Exotic EP boost @ 9 o'clock always on.. These amps are hidden gems if you can find them now. They go from old style tones, the Kings, to modern ala Ford.

Why the EQ pedal with all the tone shaping on the amp?

Tele with Texas Special pups into a Nobels ODR1 into a Wampler ACE 30 into a Vox AC-10. Sounds weird on paper but so good to the ears.

My Express is the original without the five sliders typically used to scoop tone. Besides, I don’t use my equalizer that way. I use it on the front end, before the amp. I roll off high frequencies with my ‘69 Strat. I have a Strat with VN pickups that needs the highs rolled off and some lows rolled off as well to improve clarity. I use a similar profile with my SG. I use the same profile for my Telecaster that I use for my ‘69. Rolling off lows only with my Gretsch gives me the clarity I need. As a bonus I can use the mud switch. Tone controls on my guitars and amp don’t give me that level of control. Also, the EQ-200 has memories that allow me to store and reuse settings tailored for each guitar. The BOSS EQ-200 is the best $250 I ever spent.
