I really like this comment. I was deliberately refraining from posting simply because I refuse to pick one. I started with Jimi Hendrix live playing Red House on the In The West record, and wanted to include most of the Allman Bros tones from Duane and Dicky and others. But there are so many. My favorite one is the one played from the heart with conviction and guts and energy direct from the core.

I am the same way. I tried to play with a blues band once and that was the night I realized my prior claims were false, I don't play blues, I don't know how. Yet the fact is blues is at the absolute foundation of everything I play.

I put up Otis and T Bone as two favorites, but it’s their phrasing more than than anything else that I like.

I like my own tone a lot, but my phrasing, ah, needs work...

I think phrasing and tone sometimes get confused... If you like the playing you’ll probably like the tone... Does that make sense?

Different styles of blues require different guitar tones, but choosing one now as tone that floors me, then I might as well for now pick Larry.
..tomorrow I might opt for something else.

Ain’t no way to pick just one.

A lot of my favorites are mentioned here already...I’ll add Jimmie Vaughan and Sue Foley to the mix, as well as Bonnie Raitt’s Electric slide playing.

There’s a mostly unknown Fort Worth blues guy named Rollo Smith who had spectacular tone, as well as tasty chops and sweet phrasing. I took slide lessons from him for a while, and played harp in his band off and on for a while, too. I know he put out a self-published album in the 80’s, but danged if I can find it.
    He played a cobbled-together Stratocaster-like-object into a silverface Vibrolux Reverb...sounded stupendous.

Way too many to pick just one, but I always loved this guy's tone on the live albums I heard.

I've also always loved the tone on this song and really the whole album.

Tele middle Switch position, BJIV with the Master dimed and the TS9 Drive dimed as well. Flint reverb to taste. Best played wearing a Tweed sportsjacket to get that Tweed.

I really enjoy my 1969 ES 345 into the 1966 Ampeg Gemini I i recently got.. Get's me to a place where i wanted to be for years.

But then my playing sucks ass and i love listening to T-Bone Walker and BB King instead.

Larry’s great. There were some phrases here and there that that reminded me of his Steely Dan solos.

Sorry. I mean I wrote something but it really didn’t make much sense and TDPRI won’t let me delete when I go full A-hat.

Funny that you mention Red House off Hendrix in the West plus Duane and Dicky.
Those are the first that come to mind and I return to that one Hendrix cut when I think of his great sound.

The funny part is that of course D&D were old LP's into old Marshalls, but Hendrix usual Strat was AFAIK played through a Twin Reverb for that cut.
Pretty distant from each other sound wise yet we think of them both as great (Blues) tone.

Of course the bigger part of a sound is the players touch.

"You Don't Love Me" stand-alone solo starting at approx 6:54. IMO the holy grail of blues tone.

Mine is a 2 pickup guitar like a Tele or 335 - > ge fuzzface with good vol knob cleanup - > tube amp with reverb (deluxe, super, or plexi with reverb tank).

Check out the tune-o-matic-equipped Strat! Is that a Samick headstock shape?
