A constant theme among discussions about movies, and large scale music events is that they are money grabbing schemes and somehow beneath contempt. My question is, if YOU pay the price to ride the ferris wheel, and you enjoy the ride, what is wrong with the proprietor charging you for the experience? When a movie makes a gazillion bucks, no one held a gun to the head of the folks who ponied up the bucks to make it so. Why do those who won't pony up the bucks think it is a bad thing that the movie even exists, because it's just a money grabbing scheme? I for one would personally enjoy having a money grabbing scheme that would indeed grab money!

I always say more power to you if you have it or can do it!

    Dang right! Capitalism!

I’m not rich but have no problem with those who are, some of it’s luck but also a lot of hard work for others

Everyone wants something for free, their time/life is worth more than ours/yours

We are a ME society, unfortunately

I think some of it is jealousy, because a lot of these types of things aren’t necessarily genius ideas.

I only get annoyed when the product or service’s marketing is based on the premise that I am stupid.

Nothing saying people and companies can't do so.
There's also nothing saying I have to donate my money to their cause.

Lol, what a ridiculous absolutist big of hogwash.

"What is wrong with making money, hum bump drumph!!"

Nothing. And, rarely that's ever the point when something gets criticism. "It's bad cause they made money." "Yer JUST JELLLUSSSS"

Everything is great, shut your brain off and don't question, brought to you by great minds.

I've always had that problem with people that complain about professional athletes being overpaid. "no one should make that much to throw/bounce/hit a ball" they say snidely. Well the money is there. People have an interest and pay tons of money to watch said sports. So who should the money go to if not the people actually playing the sport?

Interesting. Perhaps the entire entertainment industry is based on the premise of the old proverb, a fool and his money are soon parted! :D

Making money is not an issue - although the "how" certainly can be.

The Fyre Festival is already a topic being covered in college marketing classes which basically boils down to this premise.

Siskel & Ebert always ended every critique with: "Well, it was a pretty good film but it made too much money, so two thumbs down!"

because most of them put a lot of time/effort/money into coming off as "totally not money grabbing".

I always love it when a guy post on here I've just sold an amp, I've got a thousand dollars to spend on a guitar; What should I buy. At least three people will tell him he should donate the money to PEOPLE WHO REALLY NEED IT! Duh, what was the question?

It's just like those tabloids you see near the register at the grocery store: everyone you ask about them rolls their eyes...but somebody is buying them. If not you or your friends--who?

"You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me in that checkout line. You NEED me in that checkout line."

-Jack Nicholson as Colonel Nat Enquirer in the film A Few Good Rags
