Yes i am in Japan - actually just 10 minutes from the Fujigen factory - have bought 3 guitars there at the showroom (demo models marked down) - the latest was yesterday - a tele type (Iliad2). Hence i think i might sell this Fender now - the Iliad is AWESOME!

I have had 3 or 4 Japanese Fenders from the reissue line, and I have friends that have some too.

    I have had:

    TL52
    TC72
    Strat XII
    Something else that I can’t remember . . .

    Friends have:
    ST62
    TN69

All have been great guitars, and the best thing about them is the necks. Some of them have US pickups, but in my experience most don’t. If you wanted make improvements, the easiest thing to do is upgrade the pickups, pots, and switch. Check the pickup lead wires. In general, cloth covered means USA, thin plastic sheathed wires mean Japanese. I actually think the ceramic strat pickups from Japan sound pretty good. Can’t say the same for the Tele pickups though.

You did very well. In my neck of the woods that’s a solid $800USD or more.

You got a good deal. Some people on Reverb are asking crazy money for them.

Bu then all guitars on Reverb are overpriced.

Look up completed auctions on Ebay & Reverb, another source can be Vintage Guitar's Buyers Guide.

    I have a TL52, TC72, and ST57, all from 2010s.

The TL52 was brand new hanging on a walk in a Canadian music store and I paid about $900cdn for it after taxes. No one who worked in the store could explain why the Japanese model was sent to their store.

My other 2 mij guitars I ordered from ishibashi -- the only guitars and company I've ordered from blindly over the internet -- with no regrets. Although I paid a bit too much for them considering shipping and import charges.

Only the ST57 came with American pickups. Yours is potentially american pickups (tx specials) if you actually have a TL52 TX. Otherwise they'll probably have a pretty good vintage wind pu similar to fender original vintage pickups.

I would check sold eBay listings and set country to Japan only. I would say the MIJ prices are usually higher in the US than in the homeland if I remember correctly.

That is a very good deal especially these days. It looks like an early '70s type reissue.
