Can't speak for the video as I didn't watch it, but if you're like me you won't need it

Tick Tock by Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan. Stevie never got to see the album "Family Style" released just months after he died. Hearing Stevie Ray Vaughan singing this makes me tear up and cry. This was so prophetic by him.

Some greats here. For me one of the saddest songs I ever heard was Billy Joe Shaver doing Live Forever the first fathers day after his son Eddy died. This is a different version done on Eddy's birthday that also happened to be fathers day.

My mom loved flowers. She liked this song too. She died last October. I'm going to share this but not listen to it. Maybe in another year or so.

Another vote for Johnny Cash’s version of Hurt, I still cry every time I see the video. It’s the contrast between the man in his prime and the footage of Johnny and June close to the end.

I'm not an emotional guy though I think I have something in my eye (wow, I can rewrite lyrics!).

But this one always makes me bottom lip quiver.

If it has been posted before I apologise as I haven't read all 16 pages but I remember listening to Patches for the first time when it came out in 1970 in a bar with a few of our crowd and no-one could look at each other without tearing up.

Sam Stone by John Prine: The chorus...all I can think about is a little girl who goes without, but still loves her Daddy. "There's a hole in Daddy's arm where all the money goes, Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose." Phew.

One of the saddest I’ve ever heard. Some great chord changes with his voice.

This is a newer one, and heavy, but it makes me tear up every time. The chorus is what kills me (thinking about my kids).

I've always thought that opinions of saddest song have to have a connection to a life experience? There are songs i could never do onstage, i would breakdown. Another is by Reba: one promise too late.

I suspect this song has already been mentioned, but that line in Crying by Roy Orbison where he sings, “for you don’t love me, and I’ll alllllllllways be...” is an emotional punch to the gut.
