The "GREATEST" in terms of the best song that defines the band?

Satisfaction...case closed. No matter what you or I may want it to be...it's going to ALWAYS be Satisfaction.

The lyrics, that fuzz riff, the beat, and the image of what the song conjurors...Satisfaction is THE song that does that for The Stones.
Play the riff...people KNOW what it is, what it represents, and instantly visualize big a$$ed lips. ;)
NO OTHER song of theirs will do that on such a large scale.

Now to me what's the greatest?
What is today...it's Friday?
Then the GREATEST Stones song is...."Monkey Man" just because of the riff.

Saturday it'll probably be Shattered....
Sunday, Star Star...
Monday, Gimme Shelter....
Tuesday, Get Off My Cloud...
Wednesday, Lady Jane...just kidding I HATE that song, it'll be Rocks Off.

'Fool to Cry'.

Seriously though, I probably have about 10 to 15 Stones songs that I rank equally badass at the top. These #1 call-outs are always ridiculous, whether for songs, albums, guitarists or porn stars.

They made some consistently epic tunes for many years and especially 1968 to 1972.

Hell, they're working on 'Beggar's Banquet' and then 'Let It Bleed' and kickin' 'Jumping Jack Flash' and 'Honky Tonk Women' out the door at the same time.

Well, obviously it’s “Can’t You Hear Me Knockin’” :D

The riff, the vocal, the vamp out with the sax and guitar….Iconic

And yeah, “Shattered”, “Street Fighting Man”, “B!tch”, “Brown Sugar”, “Heartbreaker”, “Wild Horses”, “Little T&A”, etc

But I don’t believe this one has been mentioned. I think it slips under the radar as one of their greatest tracks…

The opening to “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” is just definitive rock and roll to me and always gets my blood pumping. The guitars are sublime, but Jagger being so Jagger just gives me chills. As great as that is I sort of lose the vibe about halfway through that one. I have to say “Jiving Sister Fanny” is one of my all-time favorites because of its outtake-like, rough house quality, and I love how when Taylor takes over Mick is trying to re-establish himself as the main focus, ineffectually. Taylor’s tone and execution are too perfect. Can barely understand a word Jagger is sputtering out, but that whole song is just awesome, pure Stones. “Loving Cup,” Sweet Virginia,” and every damn cut on Beggar’s Banquet is also a contender. The short answer is I don’t know for sure. An impossible question!

My favorite is "She's a Rainbow", so it must be the greatest. Right?
